Hi
I really need to overclock my amd athlon (TM) XP 2000+, since I am going to take part in a freestyle chess tournament online and I don't afford a new and powerful pc. I know very little about how to overclock. My PC's present specifications are:
amd athlon (TM) XP 2000+, 1,7 GHz
512 MB RAM
BIOS: Award Modular BIOS v6.0
CPU Temperature: 60.5 c/143.5 F (at startup, in setup)
MB Temperature: 36 c / 96,5 F (at startup, in setup)
CPU fan speed: around 2300 rpm
Over shut down temperature: 95 c

Now please help me how to do. I will be gratefull for any help.

P4 R 2.8 GH, two processors
512 Mb RAM
160 GB HDD
256 MB ATI

it could be in the bios or it could be pins that u need to change on the motherboard.

But first are u really sure u want to do this?

It could fry ur cpu and damage the motherboard, also the ram could be destoryed as when u play with the settings it tends to do everything ram, video card... and for wat a 5-12% increase on your motherboard, i ask is it worth it.

if u ask me NO.

also the cpu temp looks extreamly high, i wouldnt risk to oc it, the temp should be around 35-40o on start up, not 65. May be worthewhile cheaking the Fan and scrap off/reapply Artic 5 onto the bottom of ur heatsink.

Yikes, your CPU temp at idle is 65? I wouldn't do it then. Normally, if you overclock a processor and it reaches 65, then you have gone too far and it becomes unstable. I wouldnt risk it, because if you already cant afford to replace these, then it is a real possibility that you might lose a the processor and have nothing. Is this system your own custom build?
