Hey all I have a question about buying a psp in pakistan. Does anyone have any idea how much money (in Rupees, which is the currency over there) will it cost to buy a PSP over there. 1 dollar=60rupees. SO my guess is that it will be cheaper there. My mom is going over there for a visit and I might tell her to get it for me. I live in the U.S.(NYC w000t). If its cheaper , ill buy it. I already know that if you import a PSP into america, you cant play any movies or music but instead only games on it. Thanks four your responses, ill be waiting.

Um... I...(well tell her to take some money over there. $200- at the most. and see if you can get one cheaper.

Then you are going to figure on geting it back. im not sure if you can take the them on a boat, plane, or whatever she is taking.

shiping might cost a little bit.

but what do i know, i've never ordered anything from another country.

who knows, I SAY GO FOR IT!!!

If the psp is from a different region it can't play movies, but it can still play music from anywhere. I doubt it'll be cheaper over there. I'm pretty sure it's priced the same everywhere. I don't know though.

If you go over to Pakistan with a few hundred American dollars you can get a load of goodies.

My friend got a new chipped ps2 with 20 games for $50

Everything is cheaper there so I suggest you have your mother buy it.

ok thanks everyone for your responses.... ill look into (whethter to buy it over there or not)... from the looks of it, i might get one from my country.. hey who knows, i might buy it fomr there and sell it on ebay for a profit...

@kcc86..or anyone with lots of knowledge on this(although im assuming everyone at aD is smart :D): you said "If the psp is from a different region it can't play movies, but it can still play music from anywhere. I doubt it'll be cheaper over there. I'm pretty sure it's priced the same everywhere. I don't know though."
1.Are you sure about this?
2.And say i do get it from a different region, can i play movies if i have dowloaded them? Or can i play movies if they are only PAL? will i only be able to play PAL movies on it?
3. Say i do buy one from my county, how will my warranty work? if i have a messed up psp do i send it back to sony or the place where my mom got it from? im concerned b/c most electronic shops there are usually poor/uneducated/are too lazy to fix it/dont help.
thanks for your help.

I'm not 100% sure about the price thing. But you can only play umd movies/music from the region you bought it from. For example, I can't play Japanese umd movies with my American PSP. If you load movies/music into your memorystick then you'll be able to play any movie/music because there is no region check with the memory stick. And for the warranty, the warranty will be with the Sony company you bought it from. For example, my Japanese psp's warranty is under Sony Company Entertainment JAPAN, not America. So it's a hassle, you have to call Sony Japan's number and so on. SCEA doesn't know shit about my Japanese PSP. The only thing they knew was that software updates should not co-mingle with other region psps. Hope that cleared somethings up. If you got any more questions, feel free to reply.

hmmm thanks for the info.. but i still have a few more questions:
1. what do you mean by "if you load movies/music into your memorystick then you'll be able to play any movie/music because there is no region check with the memory stick."? say if i download ANY movie(whethere its pal or ntsc), and transfer it to my memory stick, can i play it? Is there a differnece when u load up a movie from the umd and the computer? please elaborate on this
2. What about as far as games go? games are region-free right?
3. Ofcuorse im not going to make my decision on what u say but id like to know ur advice: do u think im better off buying a psp here in the U.S. or in PAK? Money isnt that muchof issue but i wanna make sure i can play games, music, etc.
4. What langauge would a imported psp be in?
5. in finding out what firmware it is, does this pply to EVERY psp(meaning is it universal)? :http://www.psp-hacks.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=15489
Thanks

Im pretty sure it will be cheaper.

Europe + Jap psp's are the same region so you don't want either, try get the US 1.

1)With the right program i.e nero RECODE or any other converting software you can download movies and convert them + play them off your memory stick no matter what i think.

2)only buy the psp from PAK if it is US coz u live .. in the US! and jap + pal umd movies wont work on a US psp.

3)answered

4)an imported psp has every language, you can change it from the system menu. My jap psp has English words on it. IF you find that the language is not English, then do this:

turn the psp on

scroll to the far left of the screen until it stops

pick the 5th option down from the top (psp icon with tool)

pick the 2nd option from the top which is system language

and the 2nd option in the list is ENGLISH :)

5) yes all the letters stand for different firmwares, if you want homebrews (emulation purposes etc) then you need a v1.5 as it is the most compatable.

im saying that you need a US psp from pak this is because US plays Region 1 umd movies whereas PAL and JAP psp's play Region 2, I assume seen as though u live in US you would want the US psp as it wouldnt have any problems playin the region 1 umd's?

These are model numbers, they are also serial numbers for when you register your psp but they are obviously incomplete but these tell you where the psp is from and are on the psp's box.

1000 - Japan
1001 - USA
1002 - EU
1003 - Australia (or is it 1004?)
1005 - Korea
1006 - HK
1007 - Taiwan

apologies as I made a mistake, 1003 = UK/PAL EUR

mine is a jap psp so its 1000, you want a US psp so you need 1001

A PSP wont be significantly cheaper from Pakistan. You will only get Jap/HK versions as everything from pakistan is usually made there or imported from China which is a neihbouring country. The only good thing will be that you would easily find a psp with 1.5/2.0 firmware, and you could propably buy like 100s of ISOs and converted mp4 movies for lyk 500 rupees on factory pressed dvd packages. 2GB memory sticks will also be cheaper as well but make sure you get a sony one.

I went to Pakistan once and I got a brand new chipped ps2 with 70 games for about RS15000 and DVDs for RS60 each but will be difficult to get dvds anymore because of the crackdown.
