I'm about to purchase some memory, and my motherboard manual says quote
"2.5V (only) DDR SDRAM DIMMs ..."
So the only ram i can find with 2.5v is "value" type ram. Other ram I am looking at is 2.6V if i just go ahead and get the 2.6V ram will I be fine? I'm afraid of stability issues with Value type ram, like Kingston ValueRAM or Corsair Value Selects

the 2.5V 2.6V issue wont make any difference but I would recomend for an increase in ram try to match your existing ram modual in brand speed mb etc missmatched moduals cause more instabilty than cheap ram does

Yeah, right now I have 2 samsung sticks of ddr pc3200 256MB, and I'm getting a stick of kingston hyperX 512MB. Everythings the same, ddr, pc3200, unbuffered, ECC all that good stuff, so the brand shouldnt matter right? Oh and I found it with a 2.5 Voltage, so everything's the same. So the brnad shouldnt matter really right? I should be able to put the 2 256 sticks in my A channel slots, and the 512 stick in one of the B channel slots and everything should be dual chanel right, or at least hats what my mobo manual is telling me. Everything's the same besides brand.

I want to increase my RAM also. Now I have 2 128MB sticks of RD Rambus Ram. Can I put 2 256MB (RD Rambus- expensive little devils) in the two other vacant slots for a total of 768MB. Will the PC recognize them if I just put them in the slots and boot or are there other steps that have to be done? Windows XP sevice pack 2. Dell Dimension 8200. I don't know about voltage I was gonna match the sticks I got in specs.

some boards can have trouble with 3 sticks on dual channel ( they like 1,2 or 4) but if your manual says that configeration is fine then go for it

I wouldn't suggest mixing different makes of RAM because they could be incompatible, produce errors, or lower performance. For low voltage, any RAM made with Samsung UCCD chips should suffice. Corsair and gskill both have UCCD RAM.If you have a dual channel board and you add only 1 stick you're going to slow things down because you will lose dual channel support.
It would have been helpful if you had included the make of your motherboard.

pretty good deal i think, $37 for hyperX. but all the specs are identical to the samsung sticks i have now, so i'll just wait for the shippment and hope for the best, if worse comes to worst i'll just buy another stick of hyperX and throw out the samsung, or try all four. I'm definately going for dual channel though, i'll check with cpu-z to make sure once i get it in.

I'll probably put too matched 128mb in the 3and 4 slot of my mother board. RD Rambus ram must be in stalled in matched pairs. The dell site doesn't say if the pair in slot 3&4 have to be the same MBs of ram as the original 128 mbs in the 1&2 slots. I'm getting by with just the 256 total now. But I am taxing my system. The damn rambus memory is so expensive. So it's either 2X 128MB kit @ $100 or 2x 256MBs kit @ $197.
