I came across an old laptop that's running Windows 95. What I'd like to do is use my desktop's internet(cable) connection so I could play on the web while doing other stuff with the desktop. My question is what is the best way to achieve this. I'd like to go wireless with the laptop connection. Looking around it seems I need a wireless router and a pc card for the laptop. Is that correct? Is there a way to directly connect the two computers without the use of a router? Thanks.

its not worth even trying to get windows 95 going on a wireless network, you wont be able to get a wireless network card that will support windows 95... you lucky these days if you get support for anything prior to Win ME. id suggest that if you want to network such an old machine you just use a crossed network cable... that way you wont have to buy a router, a wireless laptop card or any other crap just 1 cable and it will be really easy to set up.

Yeah. That's what I'm kinda realizing after looking around. Once in awhile it looks like 98SE is supported but I haven't seen 95 yet. Probably have to go wired. The laptop also has an infrared port on it. Anyway to use this. I'm guessing the range would be pretty limited though.

Anything special I need to know about the crossover connection? Do I just buy the cable, connect it, and away I go? For what it's worth, the main computer runs XP.

John
