on 2 disk burn, second copy won't burn

i have dvdx copy, packaged with tritton +r writer. (i heard there was an upgrade but do not know where or how to download it. help?)
i copied an 80+ minutes "who" concert successfully, but tried "shrek". software said it would take 2 disks (?) and would split the chapters.
the second disk would not burn, ejected 3 times the blank disk.
played the first disk just to see if it burned and when i tried to play chapter 11 or 12 (somewhere where the split was supposed to be) the screen went nuts (dvd player through tv, NOT computer), and i could not stop the dvd copy from spinning and making high whirring noises inside the player! i finally had to cut the power to the dvd player.
what do i need to do?
