Hi First time poster. << Yep I know th eimage you have in your minds lol.

Don't worry I have read As much as I possibly could have read before posting this, and Yes to backups I am a Noob, as I just started Today.

I have just Backed up, Fifa Street 2, I used Genie's 1.1 Patch for PAL Multi 5 applied that to the ISO before Burning.

Now My question is, have I done everything right?

I know you all seem to love DvD decryptor, but I found out that they stopped making it so its rather old (and as many sticky threads are quite outdated) I decided I'd use the latest Nero instead. Nero 7 Premier.

I burned the ISO at 4x to a Datawrite Mach4 (TTH02) Disk (I read TTH02 was 1st class, and these were good price at SVP communications)

I tried to do a Disk Quality check after it but the start button was greyed out, so the best I could do was the surface reader which was 100%.

I used my swap Magic 3.6 to boot it up (bear in mind i have tried both normal and special Boot) I have also Cleaned my laser lens with cotten swab etc. Now Fifa street when playing the game runs great and it doesn't crash. However Load times seem Fairly long (not that bad but longer than original I think) and Actually Playing th game runs great, However the music plays and then stops and then continues, stops etc. Like I'm only getting 5-10 seconds bursts of music and then a Stop, (I fixed this by switching music off lol). However another problem lies in the fact that it seems to have trouble loading up a replay or an end of a game. Everything else is fine though.

I was wanting to check in here with you epxerts to see if I have done pretty much everything right or near enough. My instinct is telling me I probably have to re-burn it either at a different speed or with DvD decryptor. I have read on this site that some people say 4x, 2x, 2.4x, one guy said his burns sucked at 4x and 16x but were great at 8x. so I guess I may be in for some trial and error ahead.

If you guys can give me any instruction or advice, I would be most grateful, and to those that are sick of seeing newbies post, I do apologise, but believe me, if I could find the answer by reading, I wouldn't have posted :)

Thank you

you pretty much hit it right on. It's most likely gonna have to be trial and error but, I'd also recommend trying different media brands (eventhough the ones you tried you say are good it could be your system doesn't like them) or you could backup other games and see if they also skip in which case you know you'll have to experiment. Another thing might be the media type, if the ones you already have are +r you might wanna try -r.

Thanks for the reply.

I am using -R because from reading the forums most people say that especially if you have an older Ps2 (which I do) that your best off going for -R. If i get a bit richer I may plump for some +R's and try the booktyping.

Oh and I personally don't know if the discs are good, i'm just going based off that sticky that talks about the research that was carried out to find out which disks with which dyes were best. TTH0X was in 1st class. I was going to go with tai yuden, but these were a spindle of 50 for TTH0X which is supposed to be in the same class as tai yuden, and the price difference from the taio yuden for my First ever go at backuping (is that even a word? lol) was a tad more than I wanted to pay. I will try them in the future though, and as you say I will try burning it at different speeds, and I plan on backing ICO up today which seems less complicated than Fifa street 2 to backup (not an EA game, no patching required etc.)

Also If I may another question I thought of asking you guys, for playing backup games which do you find to be the best position for the PS2? Horizontal or Verticle, as so far I seem to be getting better results (quicker loads) with a Horizontal PS2, It kind of Struggles with Verticle (for back ups only here works perfect for none-backups).

although I can't say thats a Definite for me as it's only the first game and I'm not experienced enough at burning yet to say anything :)

Thank you

I haven't tried different position with the ps2. As far as ICO goes from what I remember it's a cd (although, I could be wrong since it's quite an old game), just letting you know so you won't waste a dvd (if it lets you burn it on dvd).

Thanks for the tip, although (again I've been reading threads here and some of htem may be decades old lol) I did read that the PAL version of ICO is actually Slightly Larger than the NTSC so it may require a DvD :-/

God I hate putting small files onto a full 4.7gb DvD it just feels wrong lol.

Yep your on the right track, Id suggest you get DVD Decrypter though, ive never had any problems with it. Also Taiyo Yuden and verbatim (TYG02) are excellent media.

I always burn at half of the max write speed, so I burn at 4X on my 8X DVD-R's.

Here's a link for DVD Decrypter if you havent got it.

Cheers.

the disks I have are 16x but I burned at 4x to try to be on teh safe side. I am going to try 2.4x se how that goes, then drop to 2x possibly 1x and if all those don't work Ill jump it up to 8x since 8x is half the speed of the disc.

It's a shame that there doesn't seem to be any exact science on how to do these things, or even consistant rules of thumb.

again thankyou for your help and tips. And I will try DvD decyrpte for when I burn ICO, and Ill report my results back here if that's ok with you guys :)

cheers

If you have the hardware (I have a Plextor PX-716A burner) Use a +R and change book type to RAM during burning. I used to have lots of weird problems with -R and now all my backups play perfect.

Ok, I burned ICO at 2X with DvD decryptor and so far (Touch wood) it's working absolutly spot on perfectly.

So I decided to Re-burn Fifa Street 2 with DvD decryptor at 2X (I used Nero previously), however it got to 92% and then got these errors.

I am currently Searching these forums and google for answers but I said I would update my progress so here it is :)

This is strange that it failed through DvD decryptor when I have already burned the ISO with Nero and it works fine other than sound is stuttering and load times are slightly long (as explained in my first post), so for DvD decryptor to not be able to write it at all, it baffles me, if anyone can offer any help I would be most gratefull.

thank you

As a further update and possibly to end this thread, I did some research for a few hours and came accross the DvD decrypter error's page, and apparently the error I received is a standard type of error when refering to a Disk my burner simply doesn't like. Perhaps the dye wasn't fully finished, maybe imperfections on the disk etc, So I decided to burn it again with another disk, and it completed Succesfully.

Although After having tried the Game in My ps2, Burning at 2x has made no difference it stil has stuttery music.

ICO so far is running flawlessly Just like the original, I also burned the FFXII demo, and it also Runs flawlessly, all burned with DvD decrypter at 2x.

So I'm not exactly sure what makes Fifa Street 2 so different. :-/

cheers

P.S. Out of Pure curiosity, does anyone know exactly what Special Boot Does? what makes it different and in what scenario's should it be used?

I'm also curious to know what the special boot is for.

When you finished with the discs you have try and get your hands on some Taiyo Yudens or Verbatim, I got some Verbatims last week and just by looking at the dye they look great quality.

Oh I will, I have 50 of these mach4's so I may be a while yet, but I will get to Taio yuden. It was just these disks, were at a good price for the amount you got and the dye is supposed to be First class according to the media guide on these forums. So I figured for my first go I would use these.

I am about to backup Dragon ball Z budokai tenkaichi later today, so I will see how that goes.

But so far ICO (Admittadly I havent played through it for mor than 10 mins) and final Fantasy XII Demo run perfectly with these disks. So far it's only fifa street 2 giving me any problems.

And from serching google and these forums, the most I could get out of what special boot is, is that its Swap magics own inbuilt version of CD Loader, or something similar. Wether thats correct or not I have no idea, but it's the most I could find.

Ok final update to once and for all end this problem from me :)

I managed to get a hold of My sisters console which is a V9 (50003) mine is a V4 (30003), and I loaded up the backup copies of fifa street 2 that were skipping for me, and guess what, hey presto hers work 100% perfectly fine with faster load times, and perfect music, with no stuttering at all.

I am now wondering if you guys know of anywhere that sells V9 or so PS2 consoles? I would prefer not to get the slimline and stick with the bulky, but get a good (new if possible) bulky V9 or so PS2 as the laser must be better.

Thanks

Before worrying about the hardware, rule out the media. TDK isn't top notch, I'm aware of what the digitalfaq link says, it's inaccurate in that regard. 16x media is very iffy for PS2 backups. Get some quality Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim 4x or 8x media. Ico is a DVD-ROM based game (I'll be it a small one). I backed it up on TYG02 about a week ago. What kind of case mod (flip top, slim tool) are you using with Swap Magic. Swap Magic requires the use of a case mod for playing PS2 backups. You can't simply load them with the disc tray. If you want to make one last ditch effort with the TDK discs, try burning the patched FIFA Street 2 iso at 8x with ImgBurn or DVD Decrypter. If that doesn't work, move on to Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim.

86. Q. Where can I find good deals on legit Taiyo Yuden's and Verbatim's?
A. http://www.supermediastore.com
Great List of Merchants locally, online, in the U.K., etc:
http://www.digitalfaq.com/dvdguides/buyerguides/buymedia.htm

106. Q. Where I can find top notch Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim media locally?
A. This is somewhat of a crap shoot. Big manufacturer's like Fuji, Sony, and Maxell have at one point past or present payed Taiyo Yuden to manufacture media for them. The big companies slap their name on the label even though the discs were manufactured in Japan by Taiyo Yuden. These discs will always be made in Japan. Authentic TY media isn't made anywhere else. Even if it says Made in Japan on the label, there is no gauruntee of getting authentic Taiyo Yuden media. You could still end up with Sony or Fuji media codes. Hence why I said this is a crap shoot. Places like Comp USA, Office Depot, Sam's Club, and Staples will carry Made In Japan branded discs. Again there is no way to know for sure from the package whether these are authentic Taiyo Yuden's. If you don't want to risk getting non TY discs, you can find 50 packs of Verbatim in the afore mentioned chain stores. One other alternative is the Made in Japan High Grade Maxell DVD+R's. They will say Made in Japan on the label and "High Grade" as well. These are excellent media. Remember when using DVD+R's, it's best you have a burner that supports booktyping/bitsetting, and a v.4 PS2 or later. Much thanks goes to kivory666 aka "docTY" for this information. He is indeed the Taiyo Yuden master. The best place to get authentic Taiyo Yuden media is from reputable online vendors like http://www.supermediastore.com http://www.rima.com http://www.meritline.com or http://www.newegg.com

I just burned Dragon Ball Z budokai tenkaichi, and it's perfect aswell. so that makes, ICO, Final Fantasy 12 demo, and Dragon ballZ all burned on Datawrite Mach4 at 4x and 2x, each of them run perfectly on my PS2, and my sisters.

Fifa Street 2 however stutters on my PS2, but runs pefectly on my sisters.

It definatly looks like the hardware is perhaps having a bad time with fifa Street 2, but its fine with the other 3. I'm wondering if its the streaming Music or something.

But since it works on my sisters there must be something different Laser wise for it to do that.

and I will get tai yudens After these Machs run out. Unless everygame I burn from here on works perfectly on these mach4's EXCEPT fifa street 2 lol. Cos then i'd be happy to use them again.

but so far they are better than they are worse, 3 perfect backups, and 1 backup that is perfect on a V9 Ps2, and slightly dodgey on a V4 PS2.

It's not likely it's the hardware, it's far more likely the media. Older PS2's especially seem to have more issues with 16x media. Anyway I've given my opinion, do as you choose.
