which graphics card should i get? my budget is within 100-175 dollars. i just cant tell which ones are good or bad. I usually just think that the higher number they are the better. or the more they cost. some of my friends told me the more pixelpipelines the better and the more mhz so im not sure. i was thinking about getting the radeon x800 but any suggestions?

hi, does it have to be ATI? if so then the X800GTO or X850, if not then 6600GT or ideally 6800GT look good.

It could be your system causing the "lag" not just the graphics card mate, what specs are you pc?

System 1 :- Main PC: AMD XP 3200+ - OC Slightly 2.31Ghz, 1024 MB DDR PC2700, 1 x 40GB Hard Drive, 1 x 60GB Hard Drive, ATI 9600XT (256 MB)Graphics Card.
Laptop 1: 1GB DDR2 Ram, 100Gb Samsung HDD, ATI X700 128mb Graphics Card.
System 2: Downloading PC: AMD Sempron 2500+, 512 MB DDR PC2700, 1 x 40GB Hard Drive.

Well i got myself an ATi X800XT Platinum Edition.Man is it fast.Im running Battlefield 2 at 1600 by 1200 resolution and Full graphics, not to mention the overdrive function is off.(extra 7 mhz clock). You cant go wrong ith an Ati especially the X800 series.

P4 3Ghz 64 bit 800FSB
1Gb DDR400
120SATA
Elsa X800XT Platinum Edition

Just the basics.

You might wanna up your ram... 512 is pretty basic when it comes to todays cutting edge games like BF2. More Ram takes more strain off of your processor to make it run smoother. So you might wanna think of upgrading your ram AND vid card.

Your best idea would be X800GTO (256 or 512MB though not 128) and an extra 512MB of RAM. That can be had for a total of $185 at newegg.

Like they said, upping your ram to a minimum of 1Gb would deffinately improve performance. And as far as Graphics goes.Dont go for anything less than a ATi Radeon 9600 256Mb or Nvidia 5900 256Mb, but preferably ATi especially when it comes to running HL2 with 8x Anti-Alaising and 16x Anisotropic filtering @ 1600x1200.Reslution makes a big difference.

HL2, being an ATi-oriented game wasn't the best example to choose, but in general those who have AA/AF on will want good image quality, and if you want the best image quality, you're after ATi.
Generally for good gaming performance, have a minimum of:
3000mhz (whether actual or AMD rating) CPU
1GB RAM
256MB Video memory, minimum spec X800, X1600, 6800 or 7600 series.
