I'm wondering if you're in the right section or even the right forum. First of all you probably need to be in the newbie section. But, we'll let the mods sort that out. No double posting allowed though or the mods will have words for you.

This section is about DVD backups for home and factory DVDs (video). WinRAR is a seldom used tool in this endeavor and never (to my knowledge) used to shrink (transcode) movies.

If you're wanting to compress (archive) files, just select the file and use the right compression command. WinRAR has directions in the Help files. However, if you're wanting to transcode a DVD movie, you need to try an app such as DVD Shrink or RB/HC. Those are freeware apps. There's a bunch of retail offerings as well. Also, if you're working with factory movie DVDs, you'll need a decryption tool along the lines of AnyDVD to help with the copyright protection.

Think cast the first stone instead of sling the first noodle and you'll catch the reference more easily. ;)
