After reading the stickied threads on modchips, am I correct in ascertaining that only the Crystal Chip can play my backups online? I want to get a modchip, but my biggest concern is playing backups online. I refuse to put my original game discs in ps2s ever again, after having numerous ones scratched up badly by various ps2s.
Also, everywhere I look, the Crystal chip is the cheapest. Why is it so much cheaper, does it have a flaw or limitation I'm not aware of?

It'll play your backups online fine. It auto patches DNA's. The only games you can't play online are Socom 2 and 3 because of online server checks. Aside from that you shouldn't have any issues with the CC, it's a good chip. It doesn't support cheat devices like ARMAX, GameShark, and Code Breaker. Most places I've seen have the CC around the same price as the MI. It matches the DMS 4 and MI in every area except support cheat devices. Those chips have also been around a little longer, so I rate them slightly ahead of the CC, but the gap is closing all the time.

I have a matrix infinity and was wondering how i can play backups on it i tried to play smackdown vs raw 2006 but it gave an error at the dnas screen people have said i need to turn off the mod chip but then how would it load up the copied game? is there any way around this, thanks

It it's an original, you turn off the chip. It it's a backup you patch the games DNA's.

DNA checker." The online game server checks your game disk to see if it's the real thing or not. Thus, you have to discover which .img file on the game disc has the checker file.

alrite then thanks for clearing that up, i knew how to patch the dnas but i read things on here that people were reporting their backups still didnt work after they patched the dnas anyway ill try it again and let you know if it worked
