BUT
I dont know what type my RAM is (DDR2, or DDR400... I think thats what the types are?)
Whats the diffrence?
Do I need a certain type?
Which is better? How?
How can I tell what I got?
Can mine take both?
Please, answer me those questions... Thanks in advance...

Well what kind of RAM you have is somthing you will need to know to buy more/add on. Whether it's SD (older) DDR (newer) etc. and whether it's PC100 PC133 (older SD formats) or any of the newer DDR. and you also need to know your motherboard's limit and not get too much. The way to check is to actually open your computer up (when it's off) and physically look at the RAM you have in there now. There should be sticker on you stick(s) of ram that will tell you exactly what you need to know. You need to buy the exact same kind because the slots where it fits in and snaps into your computer are going to vary so if you buy the wrong kind, it won't even fit. If you dont' know what the RAM looks like, they are about 1" tall and about 4" long (roughly) and are narrow. There are 2 clips, one on each side, that you will need to push away from the RAM in order to pull it out and look at it. Only hold it by the edges and be sure to snap it in tightly when/if you replace it! Good luck, hope that helped you out.

well... THANKYOU
soo, i know its ddr... and it should tell me what type of ddr it is on one of the existing sticks... I have 4our slots, at 2 of them 256 = 512 all up... soo if i fill the other 2 slots with 2 1gig ddrs, would that make my computer run faster? or, how would I make it run faster, a better mboard (with more ghz)? or wat?

try downloading this and going to memory that should tell u wat type u have ddr PC2100 up to DDR PC3200, http://www.majorgeeks.com/download425.html and 1 gb in each will make your computer run so much faster but if u have only got a crappy comp then may be worth upgrading need to no the specs of your computer.

Well, I opened her up... I looked at her bits... But I have a bit of another question...
The RAM says 256Mb, DDR, 166MHz, CL2.5
then on another sticker it says 32M x 64 SD RAM
Does that mean that when im buying my new RAM it has to be DDR SD?
or DDR 166MHz
or DDR SD 166MHz???

There is really no way of finding out your RAM limit without looking up the specs of your motherboard. If you have a manual for it that's the easiest way and if not you are gonna have to open up your computer again and get a model number and search online. Mine maxes out a 2GB but yours may vary from that. and the RAM you need to buy is DDR PC166. Do a search for that and you will find what you need. You can probably even buy it at a local Circuit City/Best Buy type store.

That's just the way RAM is identified. So when you are searching for RAM you are going to want to search for DDR (double data rate). The older RAM (SD) means single data so DDR being double means that (for example) a 256 MB stick of DDR is equal to a 512 MB stick of SD beacuse double data on the 256=512. The PC is just added in front. There are a lot more than one MHZ set on DDR..meaning 166 is not the only one so you have to add that in to find the right one you need. And PC just goes in front of it, not sure why, maybe so they can tell it apart from laptop RAM??

Check out this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DDR_SDRAM what you need is PC2700 DDR SDRAM which is 333 mhz (1/2 of which is 166mhz). Look under the Stick/Module Specification Section. I was thinking wrong earlier, had some other stuff on my mind..that link should explain it all and that RAM that you need, you can find anywhere. Any computer store. All you need to buy is whatever amount you want (assuming your motherboard can support it) in PC2700 DDR SDRAM (should be 184 pins with only one notch in the bottom). Sorry for the confusion earlier I had something else on my mind. That should answer your question and hopefully it will help you out. Just make sure you don't buy more than your motherboard will support. Good luck!

You need PC2700 (333MHZ DDR SDRAM). The amount (256/512/1GB/etc.) is up to you, the more the better. But don't go over your motherboards limit! I hope that helped you out. It's a bit confusing but now at least you know what type you need. And the 333 is your 166MHZ doubled (DDR). Your RAM has nothing to do with 133. Just remember PC2700 and that's really all you need to know!

Ok, sorry i havent been around for a while, but the ddr u need is PC2700 - u may be albe to buy PC3200 and the motherboard should only reconise it as PC2700, the PC2700 / 8 = the MHZ = 333 because it is ddr it would be 166mhz in SD RAM, btw it does not mean 256 x 2, it means the speed that it can run is x2.

Hope this helps.
