Hey guys! I just got my laptop for christmas. Its not bad, a toshiba satilite. Anyways, I was burning a CD the other day and when it was done it poped out fine. I went in the next day to burn something and there was no CD Drive reconized. This used to happen to my old Dell Computer so I thought deleteing the filters in the registry would work Because it always used too. But, I thought atleast it would show up with an explanation mark. NOTHING! But how could it become disconnected? I treat it like a baby! Any Idea's to what it might be? I also did virus scans and everything. Thanks!

I'm more surprised that this has happened to you before...
All I can say is to wipe and reinstall drivers.

My friends call me Spike.

Whatever happens, happens.

dvdsndict, if the bios doesn't see the drive & presuming it did before than loading the drivers won't work. that is because windows gets the info from the motherboard & if motherboard doesn't see the drive than windows won't.

bios- right. if your machine doesn't now see the drive in the bios- time to call toshiba and make use of their manufacturers warranty. I've had 'luck' like you've had like this but the reasons were different and was in the end coincidence. That laptop probably has at least 1yr manuf-warranty, call tech-support, sit, talk, do whatever they ask you to do (jump through their hoops so they can be satisfied with their work over the phone- to expedite this process, and for them to come to all conclusions the device is dead. By end with them if in warranty you'll get an rma for a new drive or laptop. Sooner you start, sooner things are over, figure it'll take some time, grab a drink, sit back, and just go through the steps. Out of it all you could have just got lucky and have gotten a drive that died second use out of the box to no fault of your own. I had a buddy (conicidently with a toshiba, could happen to any brand) whom's hd went bad with sectors 6months after he had it and a 4gb drive (few years back) was only able to use 1.5gb, but going thru the steps and having toshiba take care of it- before long the drive was replaced, and the guy hasn't had a problem since. If things were to take a month, by the time everything's over, your machine is fixed, things replaced- it's water under the bridge.

Good Luck.
