Hi again guys,

There are some issues that I can?t seem to understand, and of course know that someone here will be thrilled to help me out.

I will be purchasing (or having someone build) a new desktop for me in the future and have decided to give AMD a try. When I purchased my first computer some 12 years ago I would have never thought about buying an AMD. At that time I thought Intel was the Coke or Pepsi of the computer world and AMD was like settling on a Shasta or something. I suppose its possible AMD has advanced to such a degree that might have been true, but I imagine they were always good and I just didn?t know it.

The problem I am having is I don?t understand AMD?s speed. For instance, with an Intel P4 3.2, the processor speed is listed at 3.2. That I can understand, and would think just about everyone else can too. Such as a 3.0 is running (or supposed to be) at 3.0, so on and so forth.

AMD is obviously different. I looked at a Gateway today that had an AMD 3800 processor in it. The speed however was listed at 2.0 (I would think it should be 3.8??) Anyway, if someone could help me with the basics of AMD?s chips I would sure appreciate it. I would love to give them a try. I haven?t had any terrible experiences with Intel, however, if you always drove a geo metro, you would never know how nice the BMW?s are,?right?

Thanks in advance guys, your help and knowledge is always appreciated.

I have an AMD 64 3500+ that runs at 2.20Ghz. Even though mine is clocked at 2.20Ghz, it would be like having a 3.5ghz P4. I used to use Intel until last year when I went AMD and I have never been happier.
Intel depends on raw Mhz. Where as AMD uses computations. So basically AMD can do at lower MHz what Intel can do. If anybody else can add to this please do.

Dont let the door hit you on the way out, beacause I dont want ass prints on my new door!
