Do backup dics normally make a "sound" coming from the PS2 drive? I noticed that when I play original discs, it is really quiet and hardly any sound can be heard. All my backups are on maxell dvd+r 8X and they all work great, no skipping, lagging, etc. at all. But I suspect they could be the discs anyway, so I'm thinking about reburning to TYs. BTW, my firmware is up to date. The sound is not a "clicking", but more like a "screeching" and depending on the game is only heard during certain points. Also, I tried different burning speeds so that can't be it. So should I reburn to TYs or is my laser almost dead?

Is your PS2 vertical or horizontal? The PS2 supposedly plays better when its horizontal.

Well if original games play perfect that should mean that your PS2 laser is still working well, so it might then come down to the disc's. Try TY's and see how it goes.

BTW dont tell me you burn your games at 8X! If you do reduce it to 2X or 4X. I do it at 4X.

Ya, I ordered some TYs from supermediastore. The maxells I've got are RITEK R03 which already had some mixed reviews on videohelp.com.

Get good quality discs like Verbatim or Tuiyo Yuden DVD-R 8x and burn them at 4x. Always burn at half the maximum speed, and you should be fine.
