I've spent several days reading and trying various suggestions to no avail. I began using Azureus 9 days ago, and initially it ran acceptably, achieving uploads of 12-13KB/s and downloads of 5-35KB/s. In order to achieve a ratio of over 1.00 I had to seed something I had downloaded with BitComet and got my ratio to about 1.28 at the same time I was downloading another file which had 15-20 seeds and 12-20 peers constantly. I limited my DL speed to keep my ratio above 1.00 for a couple of days and felt I could let it rip and it did so for a short time until a few days ago when it dropped to between 1 B/s and short bursts of 1.1 KB/s for no known reason. I still have green smilies and not port problems I can determine and even disabling the Firewall (Zone Alarm Pro) the speed remained the same. No routers involved and I have a fixed IP address. I later found that the columns labled Choking the Peer and Choked by the Peer have asterisks in most locations which I assume means I am stopped from uploading or downloading to/from those Peers. I have no idea why that is, and I later found that when I right click on a Peer the Block Upload feature is disabled. I found it useful previously to force seeding another to completion quickly so I could shut down and leave at least one person capable of seeding. At present I have downloaded 19MB over a 25.5 hour period. I just have the one torrent running and have tried stopping it a starting different torrents with the same speed results. Everything appears the same as it was when it was working fine just a few days ago so I don't know where else to look. Any Azereus Gurus have a solution, short of installing another client? I do like the looks and features of Azereus which is why I changed from BitComet and would just like to get it working. Thanks for any help.
I'm hazarding a guess that you've got 512/128 kbs connection from the speeds you were getting. If not the principle is the same don't limit yer download speed but set yer upload speed to about 80% of what your ISP gives you. If I'm correct that you've got 512/128 then go to Options-> Transfer and set yer KB/s global upload to 8, KB/s global download to 0, Max upload slots to 3, Max connections per torrent to 52,
Max connections globally 86.
The reason for setting yer upload to 80% is that some bandwidth is required for protocol and if yer set yer upload to 100% yer flood the connection. If I'm incorrect guessing yer connection... go to Options-> Plugins-> IRC put a nick in there Then go to Plugins-> IRC and pose yer dilemna in there. Good luck (and turn yer firewall back on)
I have a 512/128Kb/s connection, and seem to have resolved the problem, or at least what I can solve. Apparently a part of my problem is my ISP which I have no control over, and some things are related to whatever algorythm is used to connect users. I went one day unable to match dial-up speed, my ISP I suspect, and the next day I ran for hours at more than double the average swarm speed only occasionally going below the swarm speed. So I am satisfied now. I just tried the settings you suggested as well and no changes so I went back to my previous settings which were not much different anyway. I have noticed changing my UL speed up or down slightly can have effect occasionally.
z9999, don't use the default port which is 6881 if yer think yer ISP is the prob then its possible they is blanket limiting bittorrent traffic which quite a few is doing. Use a port in the 50000 range... like 54775 or 52318 or whatever. You set it in Options-> Connection its the first field there. You need to forward the port in yer router if yer don't know how go to the irc channel and get them to help or get the url for portforward dot com and find your router there. they have descriptions for specific router models and applications... Azureus being one of them
Also make sure you haven't set your Max Connections Globally to "0" you'll be totally flooded... its in Options-> Transfer. It's also possible that yer just luck out and get sad torrents which leave yer thinking something is wrong with yer settings. The best way to test this is go to http://www.tlm-project.org/ and get a linux distro torrent and run it for a while. Get a popular one like knoppix or ubuntu. You don't have to go through the whole download but they are very handy for troubleshooting yer setup and also for seeing a torrent with lots of seeds who are guaranteed to not evaporate... hey this is all a bit garbled as I'm drunk at 11 am yer best bet is to login to the IRC channel... good luck with it
