HDMI v. DVI?

Hello everybody. Like a bazillion other Costco.com shoppers, I own a Sceptre X37 HDTV. But I have a problem. The TV shows blue vertical lines in HDMI. Very disrupting; ruins the picture. But when I change over to DVI, no more lines. However, the picture is not nearly as sharp, as bright, as HD-ish. My question is twofold: (1) What's the difference between these two modes, HDMI v. DVI? (2) Why do I get blue lines in one mode but not in the other? I've talked with Comcast and with Sceptre support. Neither knows anything. We've tried all sorts of tricks to get rid of the lines. Nada. I'll exchange TVs to see if it is monitor specific; then the Comcast box. If this all fails, I'll switch to another TV. Any help out there in afterdawn land? Thanks.

There is no difference between HDMI and DVI-D when it comes to digital video. HDMI is superior to DVI-D because it also carries digital audio.

Thats it.

If your television has lines through it its probably the unit not the connection.

Where you watching an HD broadcast on a digtial channel?

One of those things that is not in the owner's manual. Requires debug program to adjust the delay. You get to this program by depressing both volume buttons under the unit's front edge. In my case, increase the delay from "2" to "4" took care of the vertical blue lines. Looking good now.
