@mikej3131,
By "ripping speed" do you mean Writing Speed? With CloneDVD 2 the only option is to set the writing speed. And Yes, it matters. The "Ripping" is the reading of the source disc to the destination drive.With CloneDVD 2 this is usually a temp folder on your hard drive before burning to the blank media. I know of No Way you can change the reading speed in CloneDVD 2. I am sure you can use drive speed control(AnyDVD) to slow it down, but the reading will only be up to 16x anyway.Much slower than your hard drive,I Never mess with the read(rip) speed. As far as writing speeds, this totally depends on your burner, up-to-date firmware, & blank media type, brand and compatibility with your burner. Generally, 4x is pretty safe. I would not mess with your read speed.
"If it ain't broke, don't fix it." I hope this is an answer for you. Happy Burning!

As bunnyrip stated you can only get up to 16x on a single layer rip and half that speed for a dual layer rip. I have left my settings alone and never had a bad rip yet.

Ditto arniebear, I have never,ever had a bad rip. Thanks for adding what I left out, Dual layer reads are up to 8x. No faster. Single layer, up to 16x. No faster. Both of these are far slower than the hard drive, so there would be no reason for any errors during the rip. @mikej3131, "writing speed" will most definitley affect the quality of your movie back up. Don't burn faster than 4x, Or 1/2 the media's "rated speed" for your burner & firmware. Whichever works best for your set up. Just use High Quality Media. Verbatim, Made in Japan Fuji or Sony, to name a few.
You'll be glad you used the "Good Stuff" afterwards. :-)
