Hi to all new to this form and just want to say there is a lot of great information. I am new to burning DVD?s and sort of new to computers. I want to start burning DVD?s but just can?t seem to figure out which is the best way to do this. I have been searching this form for three days now and have gotten a lot of great info but I cant seem to figure out which is the best combination of programs to use for the latest movies coming out. Lots of people use lots of different combinations and now I don?t know which way to turn so any help would be great. I have also found very easy to follow instructions on how to set up various programs which show pictures of the monitor screen throughout the different settings etc. Can anyone help me get started/set up. I have the following burner and a new Dell computer. It has Roxio for the software but I am thinking of getting rid of it and downloading Nero 7.

I too have a Dell computer, 5100C and run Nero, DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter, AnyDVD, CloneDVD, CopyToDVD and DVD Rebuilder with no problems whatsoever. For ease of use I recommend AnyDVD and CloneDVD which have a 21 day free trial. They are easy programs to run for a beginner. You can get them here

http://www.slysoft.com

Guide is here

http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=72022

AnyDVD will break encryption on all newer movies and Clone will compress and burn. You can also use Nero Recode to compress and burn as long as AnyDVD runs in the background the encryption will be broken, Nero does not back up protected media.

You can also dl free ripper DVDFab Decrypter it will rip and then you can use free DVD Shrink to compress, however if you get Nero 7 it will not autoburn with Shrink you will need to output to your HDD and then burn.

Check out the guides and the sw at this site

@garmoon

Thanx, it is hard when you are starting out and there are so many programs. The best investment is at least buying AnyDVD with that program you can use all the rest and have no problems.

if you do get nero make sure you uninstall roxio and use a clean tool BEFORE installing nero

Is is neccessary to get rid of Roxio and download Nero 7 or does it not make a difference because the other programs do everything that is needed to burn the DVD

I have both Roxio and Nero. I use the drag to disc of roxio. Just DO NOT install the inCD portion of Nero and you should be ok. I actually still use Roxio and Nero. Nero tho, 90% of the time. My pc's a Dell too. If there are conflicts; unisnstall Roxio cause Nero's way better!

Edit: I use DVD+Rs because they can be book typed to DVD-rom and most players will recognize the discs. Use good quality media Taiyo yudens or Verbatims. Stay away from Memosux.

ptlkmg , heres a roixo zapper

http://www.downloadjunction.com/product/store/15199

run this first BEFORE you download ANYTHING else case being it sometimes zaps more than just roxio in youir drive ,then download nero, you want the lastest verison you can get which is 6.6/7 i think heres the link

http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/enu/Nero_6_Ultra_Editon_Update_What_Is_...

or you can go with the newer nero 7 verison which is sweet.

anydvd runs in the background removing the protection for the dvd,put in the dvd wait about 30 seconds for anydvd to read and remove the protection then use your fav. encoding tool dvd shrink ,fab or clonedvd 2(which be my choice) and your off try this guide for help

http://bbmayo.home.comcast.net/

remember to use good blank media(Taiyo Yuden and or Verbatim) and burn at 4x starting off

you can delete the file from your harddrive yes or leave it there if you want to make more backups with the file. i delete mine and make copies of the backups burning with Nero on the fly(from the dvd i made) ,keeps my PC running smoother that way ,remember if your backing up alot of dvds keep your system clean doing a disc cleanup and defragging at least once a week
