hey guys im most likely about to purchase a new laptop and was looking for opinions on the best bang for my buck. im gettin the laptop over a desktop cuz im goin to university in the fall and will probaly benefit me more then a regular desktop. my price range is about 1000-2000 max canadian. my main concerns are the speed of the comp and memory because hard drive capacity is easily expandalbe. also a nice looking design would be a plus too =). these are the best models i found but are all pretty much similar for about 1500 a pop. the compaq is a little cheaper but provides pretty much the same features as the others.

i was also wondering if the centrino processor is better then the amd processors. i kno for desktops the general consensus is amd is better but what about for mobiles? also reliability and overall quality of these verious brands are important and ill probally be using this comp over the next four years min. i was also looking at the dell models but for the price none of them really offer the same features as these models. ANY feedback would be much appreciated

thx all

Anything but a Dell. Just a litte of what has happened. I am into a little over a year of my Inspiron 5160. I paid for 3 years of in home support thats worthless. If they would fix the problem and not beat around the bush with their supposed world class support this is a great machine on paper. It came out of the box with issues and over the first year memory, hardrive, 2 LCD panels, 2 graphics cards, and currently waiting a new motherboard.
If you do just a little research you can find all about DELL HELL.

I think out of the laptops your looking at a HP is your best bet, I've had mine for almost a year now and have had no problems with it! Just be aware, the models your looking at after all is said and done will cost around $1800......reason being it might be wise to purchase a extended warrenty, why? in 4 years, you never know what might happen!

I actually work at the Best Buy here in Ottawa. I am not sure where you are from. I would stay away from Gateway. I've handled them right out of the box and they feel so cheap. My girlfriend owns a Toshiba Satellite and it's an awesome notebook. Toshiba has been making notebooks for 20 years now. I wouldn't get the duo unless you are taking a program that involves multiple intensive programs. Out of the 5 I would go with the last one for sure. I have always been an AMD fan. They give you the best bang for your buck. The Turion processor is built for the next generation Windows and it's going to be awesome! If you buy a Centrino you'll notebook won't be able to run the latest operating software in less than a year. A couple of things to keep in mind. The bigger the screen size the less battery life you are going to get out of it. As well, the standard is a 6 cell battery but if you go with an 8 it will increase your life by 15-20%. You should head to your local Best Buy and ask to talk to the computers senior or full timer. They would know a lot more than I do.
