Hi all, I'm thinking of buying this graphics card, but I remember when I went out to purchase a few months ago the person at the desk asked me which of the 2 different types of connections I was running? What I mean to say is that there are different types of connections that you put the video card in (I think AGP or PCI-Express) and I"m pretty sure I didn't have one of those ways. I hope yo uguys get the post, anyway if you do here's a link to the gfx card, please tell me what kind of "connector" thing it needs and how do I check if my computer has the compatibable type.

the card uses an 8x agp slot which should also work on a 4x slot. what is the make & model# of your computer or motherboard??

It's a dell dimension 2400, not sure how to check motherboard. I'm glad you understood the questions though, sorry to make it tought on you guys. If you tell me how to check my motherboard I can go do it. I just googled it and it seems a bit complicated, I cna probably figure it out, but if the make and model of the PC is sufficient then I won't have to :-).

@Blaze8 Hi,Your little Dell does not have an Agp or Pci-e slot it only has standard pci slots therefore making graphics card upgrades limited.
Here's what Tiger has to offer, maybe you can exchange the card you bought. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_slc.asp...

No, only if you change the mother board.See if you can get an exchange. The lower end models (2400-3000) have onboard graghics while the 4700 has an agp slot.I guess they figured the buyer of those budget(cough, cough)models would never want to upgrade, any way...I see there are several cards available for your machine so give Tiger a call, and explain the mix-up.I'm sure they will help you.Good luck.

O, I haven't bought the other card yet, sorry if that's how I said it in the first post. I was considering buying it but then remember what a best buy clerk had told me. So, two questions what's the difference between ddr2 and is this a decent graphics card, comparable to the other one at least.

The card you picked should do just fine. You will also be able to free up some system memory now as the new card won't be leeching it like the on board graphics did.

Ok, well then I"m probably going to purchase it now. You guys were a big help and I'm amazed that all of you did it so soon. Normally message boards are slow and would have called me a noob, thanks so much guys. Not just for the help, but for being so prompt and nice :-).

Is it really hard to install a graphics card? :-p sorry for this quetion. From what I gather just turn off comp, unplug it, unplug monitor, and then it's just pulling out the old one and putting in the new one?

Blaze8, you won't be pulling any video card out of your computer, as it has an onboard card, not one in any of your PCI slots. You will only have to put the new card in the slot, and quite possibly, go into your BIOS to disable your onboard video chip.

Some computers will disable the onboard chip, automatically, when they see a new video card in a PCI slot.

Hey guys, sorry to bump an old topic. Just wanted to let you all know that I got my new gfx card today, 256 mb, and it looks so much clearer. It took me close to 2 hours to install b/c i tried to install a new dvd-burner too, but putting it in my primary slot made it so neither of my rom drives worked. Now I'm going to have to leave the default one in there and change my secondary one. If you guys get that and have any suggestions leave em.

Sorry to get off-topic but really reason I'm post is to say thanks a lot and the card is awesome and I installed it, took me 2 hours :-/ and didn't do HW, but I say WORTH IT. Thanks all, good luck.
