only rebuild games that require it for your circumstances.

if your using Swap Magic then games over 4.3 gig require rebuilding, but rebuilding games otherwise slows loading when using the disk as the source (playing them from the CD/DVD drive).

so..........rebuild, then patch, then burn. if your not rebuilding, just patch, then burn.

there are certain games that have had patches made for them, like fifa street 2,check out www.swapmagicfix.com for more info, all the patches are available there

online patching is different, thats when you patch the dnas id on the backup copy

thats all you really need to know,
if you have a modchip you dont need to worry about rebuilding unless you want to make games run smoother,
just remeber to use good quality media like verbatim DVD-R or taiyo yuden DVD-R,
and ALWAYS burn at half the maximum write speed
what form of modification do you use?

you patch for online play as well, you have to patch the correct DNAS code for online authentication.

the comment about rebuilding to make the game smoother this is not so, you rebuild to down size the image, allot of games use dummy files to push data out on the disk so that the data can be read faster from the CD/DVD drive. rebuilding a game is only for people who use Swap Magic on games over 4.3 gig as mentioned above or people playing off a HD to save space.

check the above given link to swam magics site and check the game to see if it requires patching or not for COMPATIBILITY issues. other then that you'll only need to patch if your playing online.

there are other times when patching may be necessary (for chipped consoles) but they are circumstance particular. if your chip doesn't support OTP then you'll need to patch dual layer backups. and like SM some HD loader programs will require patching to run particular games off the HD.

well i wont be going online yet, so no worries, i will be using some good media cos i have looked it up. and i can not wait to sart burning. so if i need to patch a game just check on the swapmagicfix site for the code, how to insert the code in? do i use a certain programme or what?

@KC36330 'the comment about rebuilding to make the game smoother this is not so'
then why do other people in the forums say that if a game doesnt work and you know that its not a problem with the media then you should resort to rebuilding.
i mean im just quoting what iv heard not once but a few times,

if you had issues that took rebuilding to correct you had/have compatibility issues with something in your modification method. a quality chip requires NO game to be rebuilt to play perfectly, there is no difference between a backup and the original.

what does
'compatibility issues with something in your modification method'
mean,
are you trying to say different ps2s like differnet modchips or that there is a problem with the installation of my modchip, what exactly do you mean by that.
thanx

I'm saying if a 1-1 copy doesn't work perfectly, and it only works when you rebuild it, your modification method (modchip/swap magic/hd loader/etc..) are to blame.

oh right okay then, so the part where you said when the game is pumped up with dummie files this will help read the dvd better in the ps2, so if i download a game that has already been rebuilt, it will have a less chance of working rather than a 1-1 copy,
if so is there any way to un-rebuild the game if you know what i mean

i don't know that you can un-rebuild it, but dummy files are used to push the real data further out on the disk, the rate of data transfer is considerably higher the further you move away from the center of the disk, pushing data out to the edge of the disk makes faster loading. the XBOX was designed with this in mind and its games are read from the outside in.

hello,
the people that make the games do not place dummy files in images to annoy you,or to stop your game working with swapmagic magic, they do it to fill the disk,so the game runs smoother.

the reason and only reason you have to rebuild a game is because you are using swapamgic disks to load your backup copies.
the swapmagic disks can only boot games that have a TOC lower than approx 4.37gb,..anything around this mark, and you may have trouble, and get a black screen, and the game wont load

i do not know of any game that needs to be patched if you have a modchip, only when you want to go online do you need to modify the image, and if you have the latest crystal chip, you do not even need to do that.

rebuilding a game when you have a modchip fitted to make it run smoother is just not true.

yes,you can re/re-build a game, but you must have the correct details,
you can use a dummy file maker.
a dummy file does not contain any actual data.

hopes this helps you out a bit

@mheggie,dont read and think to much about using swapmagic disks, you only need to modify a image once in a while,as there are not that many games that need downsizing, just searcha round different forums before you backup a game,to see if it needs rebuilding,ps2nfo.com is the best place for that
