I JUST BOUGHT A COPY OF DVD X COPY PLATINUM NEW FOR 15.00 AT A COMPUTER SURPLUS STORE, NEW, SHRINKWRAPPED. IT DOESN'T WORK, WHICH IS PROBABLY ENOUGH REASON TO THINK IT'S FAKE. BUT, ANY KNOWN SIGNS?

MINE CAME LIKE THIS:

DVD X COPY PLATINUM 4.0.3.8
DID NOT COME IN BOX, CAME IN PLASTIC CASE WITH 2 CD'S.
NO MANUAL, NOTHING BUT 2 CDS, INSTRUCTIONS ON LABEL OF 2ND CD
NEMO FEATURED ON BACK OF CASE

THANKS!

By not work do you mean you cannot activate the product, or the program just does not work at all? Try you question over at the Xcopy forum you will get answers and info there

I too; am curious as to the definition of 'not working'. However, the description you are giving for your item doesn't sound legitimate. Was there a key or serial on the cd case anywhere, or is it contained on the disc? That would be a sure sign.

No company prints discs with individual serials contained in the disc data. They couldn't afford to print each individual disc like that. So, that's a big thing.

Hi,
I bought a copy of DVD X-Copy from that surplus store also and could not get it to work at first because there were no instructions. Figured it out though. First put in the DVD X-cOPY CD and load the program to your computer. Remove the CD and put in the second disk. Close the drawer and reboot your machine with the disk in it. Upon reboot after you have started up, the second disk should automatically load a DOS screen which will flash by pretty quickly. I believe you will get a Activated sucessfully screen after that if I remember correctly, maybe not though. Either way, if you load the second disk like I said, all should be fine. Reboot again after loading the second disk before launching the X-Copy program. Mine has worked fine on multiple computers. I believe it is just a registry tweek that activates the program and can be used again if needed. I reloaded with no problems after a reformat and it works fine. LOL.

Mmmm, if you have to go as far as that, to unlock it.... That's not a good sign. I purchased mine a while back; so things might have changed, but the version I got was only one disc, and had a serial located on the jewel case inside the box.

If you're restarting your computer with the second disc in order to tweak something... It sounds a little off.

However, as andmerr said:

"with computer technology anything is possible these days.........."

So it's entirely possible that it's legitimate. It just seems odd for a company capable of making such great software, that a legitimate copy wouldn't be able to install all at once, rather than a two-boot 'registry tweak' install. The only install I've ever seen needing that legitimately was windows. lol. But hey, you might have a more recent version that, for reasons I can only imagine, requires that.

Do you have a serial code?

I guess the question I would pose is "Why worry about the possibility of the program being fake when it hasn't been updated for over two years and the company is out of business?" One should concentrate on obtaining good, up-to-date software to do one's DVD backups....

Since the original poster has not gotten back, they must have either given up or got it sorted.

Very true; I've been hearing all about DVD Ripper Platinum from ImToo; which is supposed to be much better. I'd love to see how helpful it is for getting back into making AMVs again.

Ireland would be the one to ask over in the dvdxcopy forums.
He knows the program like the back of his hand.
Personally I would rather use AnyDVD and dvd-rb( or dvd shrink)
but to each his own.

Cheers!

Ok, sorry, here I am.

My DVD X COPY was purchased at the local location of an online surplus store. It has 2 cds. One is the program and the other cd is apparently to bypass you needing codes, passwords or whatever you need to use the program. It is not in the original packaging.

I felt it was fake because the quality sucked. Then, it is the version that supposedly is the pre ban version...and it could not rip michael jackson live and sat nite fever, saying it can't copy because of csss protection or whatever.

But anyways.....here is the scoop!!!

I tried to return it and they wouldn't......and I got an explanation from the head guy at the surplus store.....

This sounds like a fake story to me, but you guys tell me what you think...... He said that when 321 studios went out of business they had a lot of debts. They owed some canadian company a lot of money, so this company was allowed to release the mega thousands they had in their warehouse to get their money back. They had the 2nd cd included so you didnt need the codes. This is why this same exact software package is turning up all over the internet, ebay, tons of computer places, etc etc, all of sudden.

Sound fake....or real??????

It's true that X-Copy is outdated compared to alot of newer burning programs but the version 4.038 with the 2 cd's that I bought from the surplus store has worked fine for me for months on end. The activation process that 321 studios used online I hear just sent a hash mark back to your computer to activate the registry tweek to open up the program, that is what the second cd in the version I bought does. Anyway, i've been copying newer movies with no problems usually and if I have one that doesn't rip I use it with AnyDVD and it burns fine. Possible you got a fake but if it's the same version I bought it should work for you.

yeah but AnyDVD is why x copy is working without AnyDVD you would be screwed SO your best bet is still to use CloneDVD 2 with AnyDVD buying the combo for 49 with the promo offer or 59 bucks everyday

Oh man; that sounds like one of the most bogus stories I have heard.

...And I worked a video store for two years, you work there six months, and you hear every bogus story about every company in the entertainment industry.

Not much to do about it, seeing as the company went under. The same companies that produce those cd's overseas tend to be the ones pushing out bootleg or 'greymarket' DVDs all over ebay.

Not much to be done about it; but if you're really upset; you can always try forging an official document from 321 saying that this story is false and that they will promptly investigate this possible piracy issue. Remember, a bankrupt company is not necessarily a non-existent company. Sometimes, they get bought out. The store employee doesn't know that. lol. It's worth a shot.

Remember, an employee (especially in retail) doesn't know as much as they'd like you to think. They scare easy; things like this tend to make them back off. But hey, this is if you REALLY want your money back.

Hey aabbccdd,

Where is the dvd clone/any dvd promo offer? I didn't notice it when I went to slysoft... I need to save the 10.00 to help pay for that dvd x copy junk.

Actually some people have said their dvd x copy version like mine works fine like the guy above.... But I noticed crappy quality. I then tried to do 2 commercial dvd's and it wouldn't work. I suppose it depends on what encryption method the particular dvd employs.....newer methods probably won't work, older ones have a better chance. However I did the free trial for any dvd/clone dvd, and that is a world of difference better then dvd x copy for me. I trashed dvd x copy from my pc. I got 7 more days of free trial and then I'm buying the slysoft combo for sure. Slysoft is a winner.

Thanks for coupon code aabbccdd. The reason I bought the dvd x copy was 'cause it was 15 dollars!! However, I'm upset and I want my measley 15 dollars back. The price thrilled me when I bought it. Now I feel ripped off!
