Ok,I ordered my fliptop for my PS2 a while ago and was playing burned games just fine, but then that PS2 got stolen and I had to get another PS2.The PS2 I got now is a v7 and I modded it myself so i can swap for burned games ( http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a306/Cha0sS0ldier/IMG_0028.jpg )
The games play on the new PS2,but just not well.I get alot of freezing and music skips, especially in Madden 06 and NFS-MW(the only game that doesnt have this problem is Guitar Hero). These games are burned on maxell 8x DVD-Rs with a ritek g05 media code. The problem sounds like bad media or a bad burn, but these games worked flawlesly on my old PS2 and from what I can tell the Ritek G05s are good media.
Any idea on what the problem is..could just be that the v7 doesnt like that brand of media.
Also, does anybody know what the media code is on Sony 8x DvD-Rs(Made in Japan).

hmm.. i used G04's on my v7 with no problems... gotta be careful.. theres some bad G05's that went around.
http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=336348
check that out.
from the thread
Quote: Ritek G05/M02/R02/R03-These are all the low-end Ritek dyes for both DVD-R and DVD+R. Unfortunately the G05 don't have the reputation of their G03/G04 predecessors. Like CMC they are hit and miss (work great for some, complete crap for others). M02 seems to be Ritek G04's evil twin. It is a 4x Ritek DVD-R dye but it has caused all sorts of problems for people. Thankfully it doesn't show up very often. R02 and R03 are Ritek DVD+R dyes and are a far cry from the quality of their Ricoh counterparts

Thanks for the help, but I dont think they are bad discs since they worked perfect for me before.
I was planning to pick up some better discs anyway though.(According to the FAQ the Sony DVD-Rs are SONY0xD which is first class media, ill try some of those)
Also theres something ive always wondered,is it normal for the PS2 laser to be ALOT louder and give out a lower pitched sound when reading backups.

sounds like the laser in your v7 is either dirty or getting weak.
V9 PS2, flip top, SMD, DVDLoader
Pioneer 107, ritek g05
DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter, Nero

Ok,I cleaned the laser with a dry q-tip and that seemed to help,Madden works flawlessly now but I still have problems with NFS-MW and MVP 06.Ill try getting some alcohol tommorow and clean it with that to see it it completely fixes it.
And is it normal for the PS2 to be really noisy when reading backups.

It's probably not "normal", but my V7 has been doing that for a year now and it still plays every single game...glitch free!

Look at the pic he tried to u/l and as you can see he isn't using a fliptop lid or anything at all... The wonder the discs skip and act funny there isn't anything making the disc stable...

i would have to agree, if that is your idea of a fliptop then you are just asking for trouble.

Im using the white magnet peice to hold the disc down,so I dont see why that matters.
If that was the problem then original games would have problems to,and they dont.Ive also taken the top of some of my freinds PS2s and just used the white peice to hold the disc down so they can swap for burned games and I had no problems.
I know it doesnt look good, but im stuck using my PS2 like that till my new fliptop comes in the mail.

sorry K4kashi
didn't mean to bust on ya like that, but it does look like A$$
and probably is not the best method.
It may be the media, even if it is good it doesn't mean YOUR laser will like it.
It may be that the laser needs cleaning, which i think you tried, or adjusting as well.

Yeh,it does look like crap, but I have to use it like that till my stuff comes in the mail.I tried putting everything back together and using a slide card I made and I have the same problem.
How would I go about adjusting the laser?
