check out the software section for some freeware apps, but Tag&Rename is the best there is...well worth the $30.

For the best quality mp3s use EAC (exact audio copy) to rip your audio CDs and LAME to encode them. Follow this guide:

Tag&Rename is not a freeware, plus is have a lot of unnecessary options. Editing ID3 tags is no necessity -its senseless, and can damage files. ID3 tags must be correctly set when making of mp3, not after it was created.

I didn't say T&R was free. I said to check out the software section we have here, there are plenty of freeware ID editors. Read my post above more carefully... I just mentioned that T&R is the best, and worth the money it costs.

T&R is not senseless, and creating ID tags for mp3s after they were created in no way damages the original file. ID tags are placed in small files at the END of a mp3 file, so it doesn't alter it at all...don't know where you got your info about mp3 files and tag editing, but you're a little off...

Yes, the editing ID3 tags is senseless.
Ideally, an ID3 tag would include information about the song, artist, album, year, and genre. I have all this information in my mp3 files, and also, I even not use files with birate level less then 320 kbps.

you're not quite looking at the whole picture here.

what if you obtain a mp3 files that has NO id tag on it? or what if a mp3 you have has the WRONG id tag on it? or what if you decide that you want to add your own text the "comment" section of the tag? All of these are just a few reasons as to why ID tag editing programs are an important part to mp3 creating and using.

And just because you have an mp3 @ 320kbps doesn't mean its good quality. How it was created is vital. For instance, EAC (exact audio copy) is the only way to accurately rip a CD to your hard drive. When combined with the LAME mp3 encoder, you will have the best qualtiy mp3s possible.

And as far as bitrate goes, 320kbps is really a waste of space. VBR (variable bitrate) is far more efficient and better quality than CBR (constant bitrate) files. a mp3 compressed at 192 or 256 VBR kbps is just as good as 320 CBR kbps.

Yes, I agree that mp3 editor required when mp3 files has no ID3 tag or wrong tags. However, usually this a standard info, and if it missing, the mp3 quality is also bad, and I try not use this music at all. Also, the file renaming based on ID3 obtained from mp3(programmatically) is safe, but changing/editing ID3 tag directly in mp3 -probably not. Is there some issues?

Is there some detailed instruction how to rip an mp3 using EAC, and how to combine it with LAME mp3 encoder?

Just because a program has more options than you think you need now is no reason to shun it!

Editing a mp3 tag (ID3v1 and ID3v2) doesnt effect the mp3 music what so ever. it is a small piece of binary information at the end of the file (as scoop said) and has no influence or effect on the music.

if its a freeware program you want to use then just download it and try it yourself - thats the purpose of freeware and the best way to work out if the program does what you want it too.

Enjoy

Not because Tag&Rename has more options, its not a freeware, and sometimes freeware is developed better than commercial stuff.

Tag&Rename require installation, writes data to registry

Buy the way, what is latest Tag&Rename vers number?(i dont want install it to view)
