if u had to choose which one would u take i have socket 939 and the fx one doesnt specify

You had better get the athlon 4000+ the fx51 is 940 pin.
Maybe otherwise look at an Opteron single core or 165 dual core or 3800x2 dual core, the opterons overclock better the the standard desktop x2 cpus
