I'm stuck here, my downloads/uploads go no higher than 5KBs and I'm sure they can go much higher, I'm using Utorrent 1.5 and on 1Mbyte Broadband in the UK.

In Utorrent I go to Options > Speed guide and test if my port is fowarded properly and get this message:

Welcome to the ”Torrent Port Checker.
A test will be performed on your computer to check if the specified port is opened.

Checking port 32459 on ************...

Warning! Port 32459 can not be checked. Your browser is setup to connect through a proxy. This script will not work through proxied connections.

Please see www.portforward.com for more information if you need to map a port.

The site it tells me to go to tells me only how to port foward using a router but I do not have a router, so what can I do?

Also if this is not the problem what do I have to do to increase speeds? When I use Utorrent it is the only program running at the time.

Protection I use are: Windows Firewall, Windows Defender and NTL netguard for Antivirus.

Also, I do not think I'm connected through a proxy although I might be..

So if anyone can help me and tell me what to do I'd most appreciate it.

Zak.

Try switching to a port number above the 50000 range, or use port 1720.

Thanks for that mate, it really improved my download speeds (now over 100KBs!) but my upload speeds go no higher than 5KB a torrent when my uploads should be able to go up to 100KBs.

Anything to sort that out?

Any help appreciated. :D

Are you sure you have 1mb dsl, rather then adsl/cable ?
Lots of isp's advertise 1mb internet, where the upload is barely half the speed of the download, or even less.
There are also other factors, like the connectability between you and the other person(s) downloading from you, lag, number of peers, the other person's download speed, etc.

Hi..i have open up my port now..using port number above 50012 but now i have a problem.

I tried running the test in NATCheck but the test failed. I used the hash ID from a torrent inside mininova.org.

Test result: Unable to connect. This likely means you need to adjust your port forwarding configuration, or there is no client running on that port

what might be the problem?
currently using:
-bitcomet ver 0.57
-wireless internet connection using linksys router WRT54G

Thanx!

Hi
Forward ur ports(6881-6889)
As torrent uses ports stating from 6881.

For forwarding ports plz create a general rule in ur firewall.

hi..have tried using the ports mentioned but seems to bo also stealth.

I have inculded my bitcomet into the windows firewall exception list already but the problem still persists. Do i need to manually add the port number into the windows firewall?

thanx!

Same thing here, What ever port I try it says Error: that port isnt open. Does it have to do with the fact i am on the computer at work

may try using port 1720, or ports numbers that are higher than 50000..

Say fellas, why are you hijacking someone else's thread?

@ Titan_01 : loose The bitcomet, and get a proper non leech torrent client.

@ abhi11111: You are kidding with those port ranges, right?

@ Joeva : Try port 1720, one of the few ports usually left unblocked due to it's VoIP use

Right, I don't mean to hijack the guy's thread here, but I have the exact same problem. Well almost.

I use NTL 10Mbps (UK company). When I first started using uTorrent, I was getting speeds averaging from about 400kB/s, and sometimes topping nearly 800kB/s (which is my limit, I know this as I've had it from certain sites.) However, over the last week to two weeks, I've been barely scratching over 60kB/s.

I understand some torrents simply aren't going to use my limit all the time, but when there are torrents with over 2000 seeds, I'm guessing I should be able to get at least 100+, if not WAY more.

So I decided to to see if I could forward my ports, but I get the exact same response as the Zak, above. The only programs I use for protection are Lavasoft Personal Firewall (which I've made uTorrent a trusted program and was using the same program when I was getting top rates) and a few anti-spyware programs. Ad-Watch and Spyware Doctor, both of which I make a point of closing before I use uTorrent.

I've tried various things, like randomising the port selection. That doesn't improve things, so I then try port 60700 which was recommended to me by someone, but again, no improvement. I have even tried using 1720, but that's not doing much better. I'm still only getting about 70kB/s.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Maybe I'm just impatient, who knows, but after experiencing such, honestly, great speeds at the beginning of using uTorrent, it has really become dire now.

Cheers, Bluf.

I hope that all made sense!

Seems I may have been a litte impatient, however, I'm still only using 50% of my capabilities. So, any help on maximising my speeds would be great.

Thank you.

I think I have 1MB Cable although I'm still not sure..Heres m ISP's website: http://ntlworld.com/

If it were a cable modem what would I have to do then? Or will I have to manage with the incredibly slow speeds?

You're all talking about creating firewall exceptions in local software.

You are probably behind a router, which would be the source of your issues.

You must log into the router and either
a)turn on UPnP in your router, then do the same in your client
or
b)set up forwarding to your LOCAL ip, will be something like 192.168.1.1, you can find that out in your control panel/network connections tab. The port you forward will automatically go to THAT computer, THROUGH the router. The port number you enter in the router must MATCH the number you tell the program to use.

And...lastly.
If you're using a public tracker, you're going to be lucky to ever break 100kb/s, ever, you could be on an OC12 backbone, and it's just not going to happen.

And, for what it's worth, Zone Alarm is more hassle than it's worth if you're going to p2p. BlackIce is the only one I'd recommend...but honestly, behind a router, not using Outlook, you shouldn't need any of them unless you randomly download and open random .exe's that look like fun.

Updated system, + Kaspersky Pro, + router, + not running every .exe you see=as secure as we're going to get with windows. Oops, forgot firefox...lol, and AdAware...yadda yadda yadda.
