Hey there,

Been using AnyDVD and Roxio disc copier 7 for 6 months and it has copied everything I've used since then. Until Today when I Tried to Copy Capote And The Squid And The Whale. I also tried Chicken Little.
Is there a new copy protection on these discs that make it impossible to copy. I insert the Disc in my DVD-rom, I can copy as far as the menu but when the actual movie begins the Rom will Freeze.
Is this My Rom or is it the new DVD's?

I'd like to know before I buy a new Rom tomorrow. Thanks.

I also had a problem with "Capote" and "Squid" (both released by Sony). Another problem disc was "The Fog" (the new version). It looks like there is a new kind of copy protection on big studio new releases that Mac the Ripper can't handle. When I try to play my copies of these on my DVD player, the playback will freeze momentarily then jump about 20 minutes or more into the movie. Other parts of the copy seem to be fine. You can watch the extras, but you can't view the early chapters of the main feature. I am trying to find out if there is a solution to this. If there is an update or an alternative to Mac the Ripper for mac users who need to make back up copies of DVD's. If you hear about anything, please let me know.

The Squid and the Whale & Capote both have Sony ARccOS & Puppetlock. Chicken Little has Ripguard and The Fog has either Ripguard or ARccOS. AnyDVD is best used with CloneDVD2. I used that combo to do all of these movies with no problem. You can get Clone at slysoft.com to try for 21 days free.
So it's not your Rom you just need to use the right stuff :)

Well I managed to do The Squid And The Whale Ok by using DVDFAB with AnyDVD and NeroRecode. Played funny in one DVD player (an older one) but played fine in newer ones. I never tried Capote as I just recorded it using a DVD recorder.

Too bad though. It was great just copying a disc without the hassle of ripping it to Hard Drive. Oh well. I'm about to try Memoirs Of A Geisha this weekend to see how that will work.

But I still think I'm getting a new Rom. for $29.00 i'm sure it can't hurt.

The playback issue on the one player may be a compatibility and or burn speed issue. Players can be a bit picky. Memoirs of a Geisha is a Sony - I used AnyDVD and clone - no ripping to hard drive needed with this combo. If you don't want to get clone download DVD Shrink (free)from aD and run AnyDVD with it- Shrink has the same developer as Recode and very similar. Shrink will auto burn w/ Nero making it a one step process. While recode may not handle the Sony ones w/ AnyDVD - AnyDVD w/ Shrink will.
Oh and if you use DVDFab Decrypter turn off AnyDVD.
