I know about the conventions and compatability.

what I do not understand is which gives better quality?
Which is more succesful
When you go from DVD to DFAB to VOB to Shrink To Nero

Does it stay a ISO through all those processes?
Is a ISO folder better then a VIDEO_TS folder?

Thanks

Thank you

Then I would assume using a VIDEO_TS file is much quicker.
Why bother converting to an ISO.?

Go DVDD > Video_TS > VOBblanker > Video_TS > Shrink VIDEO_TS > NERO

Why do some even bother going iso?

You could also go DVD Decrypter (or FAB) to ISO, Shrink ISO, burn with Nero. Unless you want to use a tool like vobblanker or menushrink etc, there is no need to use file mode, and may save you time.

Yes! But if you ISO the file right from DVDD then you can not VOB OR shrink the file once it is in ISO form.

This is fine if you do not need to VOB or shrink.
Correct?

Quote:
you can not VOB

If you mean vobblanker:

Vobblanker will be unable to do anything with ISO file, it can only be used with files in a video_ts folder(.bup, .ifo, .VOB files).

You can still use DVD Shrink with ISO image files that have been created with DVD Decrypter, once decrypter is done, run shrink and goto:file--->open disk image, browse to where the image is located and choose it to open it. Once the files have been opened by shrink, you can then use shrink as you normally would.

Thats a nice feature of shrink but
but there is no way to know in advance if you will need to use VOB blanker.
This is why i always go the file method.

I'm with you there. I basically use ISO mode when the original disc is small enough to fit without any help from me. Otherwise I use file mode, vobblank it, and then Shrink.

Follow this method and you'll almost always get your backup trouble free (special cases do not apply such as a bad disk/press or if the disk is badly scratched)

1)Since DVD Shrink is no longer updated and DVDFab decrypter is, start by ripping the DVD files to your HDD using DVDFab. DVDFab will rip the whole dvd to your HDD (creates a VIDEO_TS folder containing the video files ie.. .bup, .ifo, .VOB files).

2) Open the files with DVDshrink to reauthor the movie and shrink it down to fit on a single layer DVD.

3)When backing up in shrink, have it create and ISO image that it will autoburn to disk using DVD Decrypter.

If DVD Shrink wont open the files created by DVDFab, then use vobblanker to remove the problem cells and correct the file structure. Once vobblanker is done open the files it created with DVD Shrink and proceed as usual.

YES! (john123) This is What I resort to doing. With the exception of burning to Nero.
Why bother creating the ISO in shrink. It is just an extra step.
ISO is such a slow process and endsup getting deleted in the end.

Hey, what file format you choose to have shrink create is up to you and so is your burning app of choice. I don't know about you, but once the files (ISO image or VIDEO_TS folder) have been burned to disk, I dump them, why have then taking up valuable space on your HDD????

Basically, I'm giving an outline of what should work, the file format and burning procedure is upto you.
