there's 3 places that seem to sell authentic TY's:
www.supermediastore.com
www.rima.com
www.meritline.com

i checked resellerratings.com on these 3, and meritline and supermediastore have the worst score with the worst feedback.
http://www.resellerratings.com/seller2551.html
http://www.resellerratings.com/seller1331.html
http://www.resellerratings.com/seller1639.html

rima seems to be the cheapest.

anyone buy from rima before? are they genuine ty's?

CMC mag Taiyo yudens??? I don't think so... maybe what you got are fakes, in which case they're not taiyo yudens. What's the media code on them?

if it's real TY's, media code should be TY-0 something

rima's the cheapest of the 3. they seem legit. reading the ratings on resellerratings.com. everyone's got real ty's

That'll fill you in on the basics;

http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

These are a list of decent mdia suppliers;

http://www.digitalfaq.com/dvdguides/buyerguides/buymedia.htm

I live in England and so get mine from SVP and not a single bad TY to date.

Here I'm 99% sure that these will be official TY's as they are made in Japan and media ID is TYG01, a while back when I was looking for authentic TY's someone pointed me in the direction to these however as I live in England it would be far too expensive for shipping cost.

http://www.meritline.com/taiyo-yuden-4x-dvd-r-media-silver-lacque...

PS If it says made in Japan then it most definately will be authentic, I'v heard a couple of horror stories about Supermediastore but never Rima or Meritline

Also if you view the image below the stack of TY's there is a batch of boxes that all say made in Japan, now I'm 110% sure that these are TY's (your lucky we can only get 8x and 16x in England also it costs around £30 for 100 unbranded TY's) :(

PS Unbranded means there hasnt been any third party involved in the process from goods getting made to goods received.

http://www.rima.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=...

the media code is TYG02

To be honest m8 I really don't know whether they are authentic or not however Im sure they do accept returns. When you purchase 8x DVD-R Taiyo Yuden if you open up the cake tub and take a disc out on the inner rim there will be an identification code laser etched (very small so you might need glasses) and if they are real it will say GG000***.

Please note this only applies to 8x DVD-R as I don't know about any of the other formats.

Heres a scan I did with my Taiyo Yudens (I'v had better days)

I always use -R as my PS2 won't take +R, Im not saying I'd buy from Rima as they do not clearly state whether they are made in Japan. Personally if it was me and I lived in America I would go for the Meritline link I gave you as you can clearly see in the last picture that they are made in Japan and it also says so on the description.

However if you buy from either and it turns out that they are not authentic they are very big companies so should give you a refund.

I've had good experiences with sms.com. Most of the horror stories I see involve people who got the wrong speed disc. I.E. they ordered 8x discs and got 16x discs. If that's the case sms.com will take them back, they're reputable. There's no such thing as CMC Mag TY's, so that post is total bollocks. CMC Mag's plants are all in Taiwan and Hong Kong that I'm aware of, I don't believe they even have plants in Japan. CMC Mag did make Verb's briefly, but all Verb's nowadays will code out as quality MCC.

Yep, verbs I've seen are usually MCC or TYG02.

I'd go with Tokijin's link as he knows of reputable suppliers in America, me I stick to UK so I can keep the shipping costs down and its usually next day delivery.

@Paddymail I had been getting Verbs coding out at TYG02 for a while but they seem to have stopped selling them in England (don't know whether thats the case elsewhere) so I'v turned to unbranded TY's ATM to see how they go (much more expensive though).

Regards

Yeah, I have the unbranded TY's at the minute too... I got them when they were still around £36 per 100 pack though, they're now around £30..

I sometimes get these too... http://svp.co.uk/products-solo.php?pid=219
I have used about 400 of these for PS2 games, data and films, all work great when burned with my NEC DVD writer.

As for the verbs.. I've just noticed that they don't have them at SVP anymore too... they do have some 16x verbs with the MCC code though for around £12 for 50, althougb personally I would go with the TY's for the extra £6 per 100, only 6p more per disc.

Uggh! Don't really go near Ritek anymore as I'v had some pretty nasty experiences with them also I ordered a batch of Verbatim 16x (MCC000***) once before by mistake and boy was that a bad move :(

My 1st 3 choices at SVP are;

Verbatim 8x DVD-R (TYG02) think its £6.99 for 25 STOPPED SELLING
Panasonic 8x DVD-R (TYG02) think its £7.99 for 25 OUT OF STOCK ALWAYS
Unbranded Taiyo Yuden (TYG02) £29.99 for 100 NEARLY ALWAYS IN STOCK

All of which have had the laser etched magic phrase GG000*** on the inner rim :)

Personally I think the whole out of stock with the Panasonic and Verbs is a ploy to shift all the more expensive TY's ;)
