i have a dvd burner on my home computer and have backed up several movies using shrink and decrypter without a problem. i recently purchased a laptop and cannot get anything to burn using decrypter, imgburn, nero, or the software that came with the computer. any suggestions? i feel that i have tried everything. the program will start to burn and then shut off and waste the disk.

Welcome to aD!
Could be a few things - media using, firmware not update, burn speed etc. Your best bet to help sort this out is to post the last Nero log. They can be found here - depending on which version you have:
Nero 6: program files>ahead>nero>nerohistory.txt
Nero 7: program files>Nero>Nero7>Core>nerohistory.txt
They are separated by something like this:
===== *** Nero Burning Rom, History File *** =======
Just be sure to edit out your serial # which usually begins w/ 1A or 1C.
