Hey guys,

Well I have recently burned an image of a DVD game using Toast (on a Mac) slowest speed of 1x and it will not play. I've burned DVDRip games on a CDR before and they worked good (using Nero on a PC), but what could be the problem for these FullDVD games? I'm burning them on a Memorix DVD and I can provide my PS2 version number later. Sorry if this has been posted somewhere before. Any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks!

hello,

the first thing you should try is another brand of disk, the ones you have are the worst ones you could use

hopes this helps

Ok, my Memorex DVD-R should not be the problem because I have burned succesfully DVDRIPs with them before. BTW, my model number on my PS2 is a SCPH-30001.

killa is right. Your memorex will probally play for awhile, but they are a bad brand and the dye will start to break down. Not only does this mean that your disc will be unusable, but trying to play that in your ps2 will make the laser work harder and kill it quicker.

As for using Toast, have you burnt other dvd games with it before or is it just this certain game which isn't working?

This is the first game I have tried to burn with Toast. The game is godfather btw. I got a
bunch of .dgr files and extracted them with WinRAR. Then I just burned the image file under
the Data/ISO 9660 tab.

So for sure it is the DVD type? What other dvd types are good just in case I can't find Sony
ones or they are too expensive,

My PS2 has a hard time reading other DVDs too such as purchased games and movies, guess
the laser is breaking. :(

Sorry to bump this thread, but I really am curious onto what the problem is here. Could this be the only reason why my PS2 won't play DVDs, because I am using a bad DVD type? If so, which DVD do you guys prefer me picking up then? And does it matter between DVD-R or DVD+R? Thanks for all your help!

Well the dvd type couldn't be the only problem, but those dvd's really are bad. The other problem could be the laser. And by the sounds of what you're saying, it is. If you're having problems reading other discs that's a good sign that the laser's ship is sailing.

As for + or - r's, definately use the -r's with the scph 30001.

Well I picked up some Fujifilm DVDs and no luck, it still ain't palying. :( How much does it cost to fix the laser in my PS2 and who should I send it to? Sorry, I'm new to this and hopefully it is fixable.

hey. after reading some threads, it seems a lot of people are having problems with burning the Godfather. now I know my laser has been failing but it does play DVDs ever now and again. soon I will clean it out and re-aling it but for now my question is do I need to rebuild the Godfather or patch this PAL version to NTSC? remember my game does not even load, so the loading delay problem people are encountering is inexistant here b/c the laser fails to even load the game. I downloaded the original PAL version (dagger release), maybe I should just download the NTSC version now? what do you guys suggest? thanks for all the previous info, hopefully I can get this game working asap.

The 30001 probally has the khs 400b laser in it. You can expect to spend around 50 - 60 bucks for it. And that's just buying the laser yourself. Installing it is pretty straight forward but getting it aligned can be a pain if you've never done it before.

Now, it could also be that you just need to clean your laser. Have you done this before?

Honestly, if it is the laser which is going bad, I myself would get rid of the 30001 and move up to a 39001. I run a hard drive in mine, that's why I still like the "fatties". Of course many prefer the new slim models. It's all preference. And you should be able to get a 39001 for about $60 - $80.

I didn't notice in the thread, but how do you load your games (modchip or swap magic)? This will have alot to do with having to rebuild a game or not.

there's a modchip in mine, forget which one though. everyone is talking about rebuilding the godfather iso, so I'll probably try that out before anything.

Nope. You shouldn't have to rebuild any of your games. That's one of the plus's of having a chip. Converting the game from pal to ntsc is almost a must though. Only a few of the high end chips will convert it for you. I know the dms4's for a fact and I believe, but am not sure, the matrix infinities and maybe the new crystals.

Well now hold on a minute. Ya, that's good news but in your org post you said you were using Toast to burn with on a Mac. Are you sure you're burning it right? You mentioned this was the first game you've tried.

Yeah I burned it correctly. What I did was I extracted the image file from the gfp-dgr.001 file (since there were many). Then I burned that iso using the Data-ISO 9660 tab in Toast. It asked me what speed and the first time I selected 1x and on the second try I selected best speed. However, it's a PAL game and I never converted it, don't I need to convert it to the right region like you said?
