I've had porblems recently with my Nero and DVD Shrink, but i thought i had solved them with help from members. Its been working ok and i've managed to do 10 or 12 successful burns until today when more problems have occured. Sometimes the burn fails at the very start, sometimes halfway through. From the burn log below, its failed part of the way into the burn. Another member suggested updating my firmware but i did this about a month ago, not sure if it needs updating again? If so, can anyone suggest what version i should update to for my NEC drive. I'm using Verbatim discs for burning so i'm pretty sure its not my media thats causing the problem. Can anyone please help and identify the problem(s)!!

The latest firmware for your burner is 2.18, go here http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1837 -- firmware helps to increase burning performances and media compatibility.

See above reply for updating firmware. This should have a 3 lines, stating the media code/MID.

This stated that your burning doesn't like the media you're using. What kind of brand is it? The only media I recommend are: (1) Taiyo Yuden, (2) Verbatim "Advanced Azo or DataLife Plus" and (3) Hitachi Maxell (mij).

Good luck!!

It looks like your system ASPI is corrupted.
This will cause failed burns. You can get by with no system aspi or a good one, but a corrupted one will cause problems.
Heres the AD guide on fixing ASPI.
http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/aspisetup.cfm
and if you have problems getting it to take, you can use force aspi
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cdr_software/cdr_tools/frcaspi.cfm

You can check your aspi status with Nero Info Tools. One tab is ASPI and yours will probably report ASPI as corrupted. Heres what a normal one looks like:

Good luck, sometimes its an easy fix, and other times it can be a pain to fix.

MaxBurn is right, your nero aspi driver is corrupt as shown, nero needs this file to perform correctly. You can download a fresh copy of the file from the link provided.

http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/enu/WNASPI32.DLL.html

Usage: Please copy this file in the Nero folder.

Once you've got the file on your HDD, just copy past it in the nero folder as instructed (use the copy past method so you'll have a copy of the file if this happens again), if you get a prompt from windows that the file already exists in the folder, just choose to replace it. Reboot the PC for the change to go into effect.

The path for the nero folder should be:
c:\program files\ahead\nero\

Thats a very good way of fixing a corrupt ASPI, and i never thought of doing it that way (duh). Many times the aspi will get corrupt when a newer version is installed over an old one rather than removing the old first with something like Killaspi. I suspect some versions of Nero are corrupting system aspi during a normal install, as they seem to be happening more often lately in the logs.

Another burner up and running.. YES!!

:)
