got a new mobo for my comp. installed it, but didnt reinstall windows yet. it will load to desktop then reset. is this because of the os not configured for new mobo? is it necessary to reinstall windows? ive done this before with other comps and changing out mobo and never had probs using the os that was already on the hard drive.

No need for double posting man.
Try booting up in safe mode. See if the same thing happens, if so, you might have a heating problem. I guess you kept the same processor too?
Usually if windows notices a big hardware change it will ask you to re-activate windows, but I've never heard of windows going all the way to the desktop and then restarting.

take a look in the bios to see what the temp is. actually, stay in the bios & see if reboots from there or not.

47C in BIOS is pretty hot. Once windows starts to run it's gonna heat up alot. This could easily be your problem. Open the side of your case an get some air blowing in there. See if it drops your temp.

there is an update, but i dont think it wii sta running long enuff to install it. also the reason i got a new mobo and power supply is because my old power supply shorted out and melted the connector to the mobo. could this have done somthing to the hd, memory and or the cpu? i can give info on which pins on the psu chorted out if would help.

i got a HD out of another comp that had win xp installed already. i put it in my comp with new mobo and booted it up. it runs perfectly fine... so far anyways... i installed all the mobo drivers and everything is working. now the HD that i did have in it that kept resetting works perfectly fine as a slave. im waiting for my co-worker to find his xp disk so i can try to install it on the HD that kept resetting.
