I have a Pioneer DVR-110D burner using Verbatim DVD-R 16x media and have read that it is best to burn games at 2x. I have backed up some games using both Nero and DVD Decrypter, but for some reason I cannot burn below 4x. I change it to 2x prior to burning, but it keeps burning at 4x. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.
first find firmware for your drive. most of the time you can find it here, http://www.cdfreaks.com/drive. you can download Omnipatch, found at http://codeguys.rpc1.org/patchers.html, and use that to change the firmware for your drive allowing it to burn certain media at slower speeds. i've done it myself, but it worked a little differently than it should have. you can either select your media and check the boxes for 2x or 1x, or you can double click the media and basically tell it to be read/write as a different type of media (one that CAN be burnt at 2x perhaps?)
@mike141 your drive is not listed on that site, so i found this, http://www.pioneer-eur.com/eur/content/support/support/software.h... just scroll down until you find yours
When you insert the disc, what does Decrypter give you for the burn speeds available? Also, have you updated your drives firmware lately? If not, there's a link to it in my profile page.
Now, towards a different issue. With 16X DVD's, you would not want to burn at 2X. That would, more than likely, cause problems with the gameplay (stuttering, freezing, etc). A lot of people have had troubles using 16X for games! If it's a possibility, I'd recommend getting some 8X discs, and then burning them at 4X would be perfect. You could use the 16X for DVD's.
It allows me to select the 2x speed for burning, but when it burns, it burns at 4x. Thanks. I'll try to update the firmware, right now using ver 1.17 for it.
jamaals right, but just before you go and buy some 8x dvds try burning those discs at 8x, as you must always burn at half the maximum write speed for best results, for example, 8x disks - burn at 4x, 16x disks burn at 8x, 4x disks burn at 1-2x
hope this helps.
I can't speak for 4X discs because I have never used them, but I can recommend 8X (burn at 4X). I've been using TY 8X DVD-R's for a while, and haven't had a single problem with them at all!
Sometimes, it also depends on what your PS2 prefers. You could try a small pack of 4X to verify that there isn't any stuttering.
Jamal, Should I update the firmware or just go get the 8x DVD-r's and burn them at 4x? ANd if so, how do I update firmware, just download it and then install? Thanks
