Hi everyone.

A strange error has been hapening everytime I try to burn with nero.
I used TDK dvd's and then sony and none of them work.

Here is the log:

Nero is a little outdated, try version 6.6.0.18 here:

You are getting close to running out of steam, no multitasking during the burn.

Sony's aren't the best of the bunch and TDK's are even worse, the ones made in Japan should code out as Taiyo Yuden...top notch media. Try some Verbatim (made in Taiwan) or Taiyo Yuden, Sony, Fuji, Maxell (made in Japan)

This error means that your burner isn't recognizing your discs and your firmware is up to date, so I would try another brand...see above.

Burning too slow can have ill effects, the same as burning too fast...try 4X and work your way up from there.

I got twice failed burns, and the only variable that was changed it was that DVD High Compatibility mode. I turned it off( I was experimenting:~)!), and everything worked fine. And I was using DVD+Rs. Unles the files to be burned are less than 1 gb on a DVD+R, I really don't see the point of having that feature on. It only happened twice to me, and it could be very different for each burner, but I think is deffinetely safer to have it unticked!

My thoughts exactly, it stands to reason that if you are using DVD-R media this option shouldn't even be available when a -R disc is present in the drive, because this option is basically a way to booktype DVD+R's in drives that don't support booktyping.

Well, that is different from booktyping. Both proccesses make the DVD more compatible with the player, but in different ways.The high compatibility setting is for DVD-Video less than 1Gb. Apparently "older" players have trouble if the video is less than 1Gb, and then the sofrware writes some dummy data on the disc to make it at keast 1 GB.
With booktyping, on the +Rs discs there is a special field, booktype field, that can be written so the player identifies the disc as either a DVD-ROM, DVD+R(W) or a DVD-R(W)

Interesting...the drive in my laptop is a generic drive that isn't capable of being bitset (that I know of) but when I run the burned discs through CD/DVD speed they are shown as DVD-ROM. Maybe my drive is capable and I wasn't aware of it. I just thought it was the high compatability mode doing it's thing.

No, it is not the DVD High compatibility mode:~) If that were the case, there would be virtually no need for modified firwmare and bitsetting utilities!
What drive do you have and what firmware?
In nero CD/DVD speed, if you use the DVD info tab, that will show a false DVD-ROM. Do you have DVD Decrypter? Put the disc in your drive and use DVD Decrypter ISO read, it will tell you what disc you have burned.

I'm not at my laptop at the moment, I think it is an LG but again in Nero CD/DVD speed DVD-ROM isn't listed as an option. I know that LG's are capable of bitsetting...maybe I'll look into it a little deeper.

I downloaded that version of Nero but I can only try it later.
I turned that compatibility thing off.

I don't know if this has anything to do with it but I think the errors started getting worse (now I can't burn anything at all) after the firmware upgrade... is there any way to reverse it?

I don't know why isn't the drive recognising the media has I have used this type before.

Please don't tell me my drive is broken...

You can flash your drive back to a previous firmware version, but I would try another brand of discs first as suggested by LOCO. Discs made in Taiwan are unreliable and usually of poor quality with the exception of Verbatim. The firmware will help your drive recognize new media which might not have been around when your last firmware was written.

I used an old dvd+R that came with the burner and it worked (burning data, not iso) but I don't have any more of this dvd's so I can't try burning an iso...
I don't know if it had anything to do with it being dvd+r.
I used dvd identifier and it said it was a philips (the dvd itself didn't said this).

Should I post the log?

Congrats on the successful burn. Phillips aren't known for the quality of the discs that they manufacture, today you might get a good burn but tomorrow you might get a coaster....and still down the road the dye may degrade a little faster than a higher quality disc from another manufacturer.

I've had good experiences with Verbatims and the made in Japan Maxell's. The MIJ maxell's can be found at wally world and the Verbatim's should also be readily available at many local retailers.

Well the problem is I live in Portugal and I have trouble finding good quality media. Guess I'll have to keep searching.
