I have Nero 7.0.1.4 and a Samsung SH-W162C dvd writer.
I have burned a dvd from my hard drive to a -R disc.
4.35gb
Writing at 8 x 11,080 kb/s
Initial remaining time was 8 minutes.
When it got to 4% it started to burn (drive made noises and little light started flickering)
After the 8 minutes was up it, only about 30% was done.
Remaining time stayed at 0:00 until 55% done and then remaining time changed to 16 minutes. Disc finally finished after 40 minutes.
Used to only take about 8 minutes to copy.
Any suggestions on what I can do to get it back to about 8 minutes a copy?
My options / settings are just the normal defaults.
Thanks in advance.

Make sure your drive didnt fall into PIO mode.
To check go to....
Start/Control Panel/System/Hardeware Tab/Device Manager/IDE Contolers
Once your at the IDE controlers branch out the tree and click on each IDE Channel Primary and Secondary. Make sure they are all in DMA transfer mode. If it says it is in PIO mode you need to change it to DMA mode.
If it wont let you go into DMA mode then go to (Device Manager) Again and choose DVD/CD ROM drives and uninstall your DVD Burrner drive and restart your computer. It then will reinstall the drive automaticly and it should put it back in DMA mode for you.
If they are all in DMA mode then you might have to uninstall and reinstall nero.

Your burrner DMA is set to OFF.
Wouldnt he get a low memory in the LOG if the drive is set to PIO mode becuase the CPU is doing all the work.
Secondary IDE Channel
Device 0
Transfer Mode set to: PIO Only <===== needs to be DMA mode
You need to set it to DMA mode if it wont let you set it then uninstall that Secondary channel and restart and it should restart the drive back in DMA mode.

How do I turn it on? Is it what Larrylje said to do?
Yes - guilty - I was surfing the web - posting my question on here!
I have left it to burn without any other program running and no surfing the net, but I haven't closed off any backgroud apps though.
Not sure which ones are ok to close and which ones I shouldn't.

Big hugs to all of you for your help.
All modes set to DMA, and uninstalled and reinstalled the DVD writer.
First disc copied that would have taken 45 minutes was completed in just under 11 minutes, and a project done in Nero Vision was so quick I couldn't believe it.
Thanks again everyone, for all your help.

I dont know if you took my advice with the Nero bit(uninstall etc), if not keep in mind that 7.0.1.4 version is "buggy" and WILL cause problems.
Glad to here all is back to normal for you.

heres my parting words of advice:
with the amount of loose data that is accunulated while dvd burning/encoding, its probably worth your while to defrag your computer more often than you do now
