I have read all of the forums that I can and no matter what i do i keep getting the same error. data error (cyclic redundancy check). Is there anyway around this?
What program are you getting this in, I am assuming Shrink. What movie are you trying to do, is this on one movie all movies? It could be a protection error in which case try ripping with DVDFab Decrypter to your HDD and then process with Shrink. Or it maybe that the disk you are trying to rip is scratched, smudged, or imperfect in which case try cleaning it or take it back and get another.

A CRC error is typically caused by a dirty, smudged, or scratched disk, you may have a bad press, also the another possibility is copy protection that shrink or DVD decrypter can't handle.
Try cleaning the disk and try again, if it's badly scratched or if you've got a bad press you'll need to get another disk and try it.
If it's copy protection and using DVD shrink or DVD decrypter: DVD shrink/DVD Decrypter are no longer updated so they can't handle the new sony or microvision copy protection being placed on some of the new movie releases, this can cause it to stop encoding or produce an error condition.
Keeping it FREE: To get around this you could try a very good ripper/decrypter called DVDFab decrypter, it'a a whole movie ripper so you'll still need DVDshrink to reauthor the DVD if you want to remove any unwanted extras and shrink the files to fit onto a single layer DVD.Once DVDFab is done ripping, open the files using DVDshrink's open files tab and proceed using DVDshrink as usual.
If DVDshrink won't open the files ripped by DVDFab then you'll need to process them thru VobBlanker first (vobblanker will produce another set of files, put the files produced by vobblanker in another folder on you desktop and call it VIDEO_TS), once vobblanker is done open the files it produced using DVDshrink as described above.
$$$ The easiest way to get around the copy protection is to purchase Anydvd, it's a driver that runs in the backround helping DVDshrink crack the copy protection and produce a backup. It comes with a 21 day free trial, check it out here:
