TMPGEnc--won't work for some files

I'm using TMPGEnc to encode some Xvid AVIs to mpg. The AVIs play back fine with my Xvid codec but TMPGEnc skews the audio and video. Any help appreciated

Well TMPGEnc is not exactly great anyway! The mpgs you get from it sometimes have annoying problems, like they wont playback correctly in your stand alone dvd player! Did you use it for vcd or svcd?

VCD. The A/V is messed up on my PC...I haven't even tried actually burning the CD yet. Also..on one large file (702MB) the A/V is fine for a while until a glitch appears (only in the mpeg, not the AVI) and then it is skewed by several seconds. This is a common problem across encoders...so I guess I just need to re-download the file, right?

The file plays back just fine, although if you jump to a specific place it skews the audio track. It's only when encoding that the problem arises.

Anyone try Blaze Media Pro? I find it encodes a whole lot better (and faster) than TMPGEnc, and is easier for beginners to use
Comp 1: Dell Inspiron P4 2.4Ghz / 512 MB RAM with 24x CD-RW and Firewire In, SVideo Out running XP Pro
Comp 2: Dell Dimension P3 550Mhz / 384MB RAM with old 2x CD-RW running XP Home.

I used VirtualDub to separate the audio as a wave, and then TMPGEnc to recombine but it doesn't work. VirtualDub gives me an improper audio stream error, then says it will re-encode the stream, but I haven't tried that.
Comp 1: Dell Inspiron P4 2.4Ghz / 512 MB RAM with 24x CD-RW and Firewire In, SVideo Out running XP Pro
Comp 2: Dell Dimension P3 550Mhz / 384MB RAM with old 2x CD-RW running XP Home.

Try make a backup copy of your avi and then run it through a program called avifixed and see if it says anything

What u need to do is change your enviormental settings for the direct show filter,options enviormental settins then the vafpi plugins tab change the setting for the direct show filter from -1 to 1 this will enable to encode xvid with ac3 audio. As for the ones bashing tmpge u should take the time to learn how to use a program before you label it bad

when i use that TMPGenc on most of the files i try to encode it totaly loses the audio, but on some files it plays fine!
any1 hav any idea why it does this, and how 2 change it??

You could try to use an external audio-tool like "tooLame" for TMPGenc, because the internal one sucks.

i tried usin toolame but 4 some reason or another i cudnt get it even started,wudnt install properly!
does ne1 know ne other external audio tools that i cud use??

most likely just the direct show filter setting in tmpge is causing your problem
u could use besweet to fix most audio problems in tmpge if they do actually exist
