Hi everyone, I didn't know ps2 slimlines were flip lids!! DUH!
So when I was asked if you could play backups with swap magic on the slimline I couldnt answer. But I assume you can't...without changing the flip lid. Is this so? and if it is so ...Why?

No you can't in order to play backups on a slimline you need some sort of flip top that will open without your PS2 realising that its open.

The reason in this is because when a PS2's drive opens it tells the PS2 to check the disc again therefore rendering backups completely useless with regards to swap methods, however if you buy a third party fliptop this takes the other top's place and so in turn never have to 'officially' open you PS2 drive again as you are not pressing the eject button to open it so therefore no additional checks is being made to your backups.

You CAN play backups on the slim without installing a different top. If you take it apart to put a different top on it, there goes your warranty.

What you want is Magic Keys. The are 3 metal or plastic pieces that you put in place that cover up the sensors that tells the PS2 the top is open. You can get them for under $10 shipped. I got mine off e-bay.. but some places you can get both the Magic Keys and swap magic in a combo. Just do a search.
