This question has been asked all over the net and I will give you my opinion. I always burn at 1/2 the rated speed of the 16X blank media I use although I did do a burn 1 time at 12X and it came out OK. The only way you can find out the best speed for your burner is to run a PI/PO test to see how it scans out.
When you burn using multiple recorders the max speed will be determined by the slowest burner. Were all of the burner's identical? You also could have gotten buffer underruns that would have slowed you down alittle.( did the buffer underrun box come up) Nero might have seen also the 8X blank media as 4X. These are all guesses as I was not there to see how it was setup and if there were any minor problems present. Do you have the Nero log and can you post it so we can see if there are any problems w/in the log
