Howdi basically I'm having abit of trouble with my computer I have 2GB DDR and was just wondering why my computer is only using up 1/8 of this to transcode in Nero Vision and on task manager it is showing up as 100% CPU usage while at the bottom it say commit charge: 292M/3880M.

Also basically I'm asking if you can someway designate more space to be used up while transcoding?
And also why is it showing that my system is using 100% when clearly looking at the commit charge and the running processes it is not?

PS I only have 24 processes running as this is a new computer.

Check your Primary DMA settings. Sounds like your HD slipped into PIO mode.

Help would be greatly appreciated.

Nah, all my primary, secondary and dual channel settings are set on DMA mode if available and I can drop down to PIO mode only if I want to but obviously I don't.

Could you please tell me what the difference between PIO mode and DMA mode is, as knowledge is power.

Regards paul.

To check your DMA settings.

Basically, Programmable I/O (PIO) uses port I/O to transfer data to and from the drive. This method uses the processor continuously for the exchange.
Direct Memory Access uses the disk controller to move data directly to memory without tying up the processor.
