I need to get a new DVD burner for my PC, my Sony DRU-700A has worked great for the past few years but is now not reading some of my movie discs to back up, and not even reading some of my blank DVD's that i have used for years. It will give me write errors saying it has a media problem.
But the same movie disc i can stick in my laptop and it will read it just fine, it has an LG burner.
The discs are Philips 8X DVD-R and have been great. I have had no problmes with this media for years backing up my PS2/Xbox games, and all my movies. But now i just keep either getting errors or it will not read the blank at all.
I tried out a TDK 8X DVD+R and it read that one just fine and burned to it, although i have not had a chance to check the quality.
so what would be my best choice? Or should i just not buy it from a store and wait it out to buy a brand from an online store that is better? And what brand and model would that be?

you can use a LightScribe? burner to burn the same discs as a regular burner .. but you need LightScribe? discs if you want to burn labels onto the discs ...

BenQ 1655 same as above but lightscribe too. Should be around $50.
No need to consider burners at higher prices.
Thanks guys, that's what i figured. I will just have to be patient and wait a few days to get it.
I just ordered the 1655, i really want to check out this lightscribe feature. I ordered some Verbatim discs to try it out on. Hope they are good for making quality copies, if not then the lightscribe feature will do no good because i will not be able to use the lightscribe DVD's
