Does anyone know if it is possible to combine movie clips and photo into one slide show using Nero 7 Ultra, and if so how is it done?

Thank you

This can be done and actually works pretty well.

First, make your slideshow with Nero Vision.
Don't add a menu, all you want is the video slideshow.
Save it to a folder on your HDD, somewhere you can find it.

Open Nero Vision again and add your movie files, then add your slideshow video.
Make sure you put them all in the right order.
You can create a menu now as well.
Burn this to a DVD.

Thank you for the quick response fasfrank

Just to make sure my question was clear I will better explain what I am trying to do.
I want to make a slide show where a photo will appear and then a movie clip will play followed by more photos and movie clips.

Is this in fact possible? I tried to do this the way fasfrank outlined but was not sure which feature in vision I should use. I first took my photos and went to the slide show feature and created a slide show and saved it as suggested. I tried to go back to slide show feature and attempted to add the video files but the program locked up. Was this the proper procedure?

Yep, you can do this. Each photo has to be turned into a video clip. Kinda like a single photo slideshow.

Once you get done with that part you should have a whole bunch of short clips sitting in individual folders, ie Clip_1, Clip_2 and so on.

Once you get all this done. Close the Nero slideshow program.

I don't know if you are using StartSmart or not, I'll assume you are not and have you open it like this:

Start >All Programs > Nero 7 Ultra Edition > Photo and Video > Nero Vision.

This should open the first page of Nero Vision 4. From the "What would you like to do" Menu, select Make DVD... > DVD-Video.

This opens your editing screen. Top right, click the left tab to open the "My Media Files" window. This is where your clips and video will go. click the icon at the lower left of the My Media Files.

This opens a browser and now you can go find your photo clips and your movie clips and start adding them to your project. You do not have to worry about the order they are in yet. You can drag them around as needed.

When you do open this browser, be sure to look at the bottom at the "Files of Type" box. Make sure that what you want to add has one of these file extensions.

The thing to do here on this page is look it over and click on things.

I'll go over a few of them as I'm looking at the screen as I type this.
On the left is the playback screen. Run your cursor over the icons at the bottom of the playback screen and it will tell you what each one does. Click the check icon because that is handy to adjust the volume.
You can try the cut and split functions. The rest are self-explanatory.

At the top right you have four tabs:
Media files: All the stuff you have gathered and want to put in your movie.

Video effects: Really cool stuff...give your clip an aged look for example. Try adding one, then right click and select properties. You can edit the effect.

Text Effects: You can spend days playing with this. Dragging the effect into the storyboard will open the properties menu for the specific text effect.

Transitions: These go over the top of the split between each clip.
Please note that transitions do not go in between clips.
For example: Two 15 second clips with a 10 second long transition from the first clip to the second. The first clip plays for 10 seconds then the transition begins. The transition covers the first 5 second of the second clip. Make sense?

Just below the preview screen you will see the tabs that allow you to toggle between the timeline and storyboard. use the storyboard view for transitions and adding your clips. Use the timelne view for adding video and text effects. At least that's how I like to do it. At the bottom of the Timeline view you will see some magnifying glasses. They help you expand and contract the timeline so you can see everything better.

At the bottom, click the "More" button. Of most interest to you will be the Video Options. Click on that and then click DVD-Video. This is where you can adjust your Transcoding. I usually leave it as is but I do change the Encoding Mode to High Quality(2 pass VBR)

I would recommend you make a couple of short practice videos. Otherwise you could spend hours transcoding mistakes.

Once you get it transcoded and ready to burn, get yourself a DVD RW disc so you can erase it. Burn to that and see if you like what you see on your TV. What looks great on your monitor can look really bad on your TV.

If you do use text effects, keep them smaller than you think they should be and keep them away from the edges of the screen. You need to be aware of the "TV safe area"

This program does a good job of explaining things so you should be able to work your way through it. I did a bunch of small clips initially, which taught me a lot.

I hope this will get you going.

Cheers,
Frank

hi guys between you I think I have an answer to my problem which is to make a single slideshow of over 300 photos to then be combined on a disc with video footage.ie one menu entry for the slides plus one each for movie videos.
So its create say 5 slideshows (nero max 99 photos per ss) with transitions, no menu (had missed this option!!), and save to hdd in its own folder (nero wants to use same file names for all saves), restarting each time until done. Then restart to create DVD-Video and import each .VOB in turn agreeing to merge each slideshow video clip. Then proceed with no menu and save overall ss video. Restart create DVD-Video and add movie video clips and master slideshow video plus menu, burn and job done. Phew!
Did I understand correctly?????
Cheers

Now that,s a big project! I think you have it down though. I'd just make sure to stay well under the "99" limit for each slideshow. You've got that covered too.

Cheers,
Frank
