The free ones are Videora & Jodix.

Videora - http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/iPod/
Jodix - http://www.jodix.com/

If you want to put DVD's on your iPod, you will either have to

a) download a good ripper like DVD Decrypter and use it to create a single .vob file which can subsequently be transcoded into mp4 using either of the aforementioned proggys, or

b) pay for an all-in-one. These include

PQDVD - http://www.pqdvd.com/dvd-to-ipod-video-converter.html
Cucusoft - http://www.avi-vcd.com/
imTOO - http://www.imtoo.com/dvd-to-ipod-converter.html
Xilisoft - http://www.xilisoft.com/ipod-video-converter.html

Please also refer to the stickied conversion tutorials at the top of this forum..

@Domreis,

How much does that cost and have you tried any other converters before?

PSP9 is a free software.

It makes no sense to use PSP9 over Videora, because they are both near-identical programs created by the same company [Videora Holdings], except one is tweaked for full compatibility with the PSP, the other is for the iPod.

it depends if you want to convert from a DVD.
I use PSP Video 9, which is almost the same thing as Videora, and it's very easy to use. All you have to do is open it up, click on the "convert" tab, then "one-click convert", select the movie and it'll copy the movie into mp4 format. It's very convenient.
If you have a DVD, I use DVD Decrypter (I don't think you can download it online anymore though). Just decrypt the DVD, and go to PSP Video 9 and convert.
Overall, it's a very simple process.

I would go with PQ DVD. It supports formats such as .AVI, mpeg, .rm, etc., and is easy to use.

PQDVD is my top tip should you be willing to pay, as it has very advanced features in a newbie-friendly interface.

But as with all programs, try before you buy. You can test PQDVD with the evaluation version, which allows you to record between 5 & 10 minutes of iPod compatible mp4..
