Random freezes and restarts are quite likely overheating. Dust cleaning will help a little, but also check the fans are all spinning freely. You may need to add more if the problem isn't solved. Download Hmonitor to check what temperatures your system is making. Best test is to run a game that causes the problem but leave it after having been playing a while (but not enough for a restart). If you're CPU is above 60ºC and/or your case above 40ºC there's a cooling issue.
If everything's OK you may have a memory issue. Let us know what the result is.

i've downloaded the hmonitor program, and i ran the game and the only thing of concern is that the mainboard rose above 41 degrees C. my cpu reached 39`c, and my cooling 3443 rpm, so i don't know if it's too high. is that normal of not? or is there another problem.
i've got 2gigs of ram
my cpu is 2.6ghz
my video is 128mb geforce 6600gt.
could you help? thanks.

Hmmm, sounds like a dumb question but do you have the latest drivers installed for your video card?
Also, can you check the voltages to all your rails using the program and tell me if an are more than 10% out.

It would suggest a problem, but then again those programs can be a bit unreliable. I wouldn't have thought you'd get away with a 5V so low, so it may be false but unfortunately it's close enough to potentially be right.
I get 12.10V and -12.61V for +/-12V
5.08V for +5V and 3.31V for I/O. With the exception of the -12V rail which Hiper rails always overshoot a bit, the system is very stable power-wise. Is the game the only thing you have a problem with or do you get issues with encoding video, compressing large files etc?
If you do, you may want to try a better PSU.

well i've downloaded the latest drivers for my video and sound, and i've given the cpu fan a clean and it seems that solved the problem. The dust in my cpu was of concern it was completely covered in dust so that would suggest the main problem area. Thanks for your replies, cal.

Yeah, though I'd think the drivers will help more than cleaning, cleaning out the system is always useful.
