Ive just downloaded this movie onto mpeg and its about a 2.5gig movie as it is (mpeg), useing my dvd software i wanted to put this on to a dvd-r but the size of the file is too big, Once its converted to dvd format it will be 6.9gigs, is there anyway to squeeze this onto a 4.7gig dvdr, obviosly i will lose some quality but id rather that then have a 2.5gig mpeg sat on my harddrive forever.

Thanks for any help on this.

Ive just had a thought and wondered if this would work on my problem above.

create an image file from the mpeg using dvd-factory or other software, then extract the vob etc files from the bin image, would it be possible from there to run dvd2one and get it on 1 disc, ive never tried this and would appreciate someone letting me know if this would work or not before i go through the pain staking routine of it all for nothing.

thanks in advance.

That should work. What I did was use factory and then told it to write the dvd to hard drive then use dvd2one.

I had a 1Gb mpeg (Barely Legal - On Vacation)

DVD Architect after rendering it at highest quality made it 6.4Gb.
They were .VOB .IFO .BUP files as I did a mpeg 2 dvd conversion.
Ran it thru DVD2One.v1.1.1. & set it to 4.3Gb
Burnt w/ Nero 5.5.10.20

All's good ! (Although rendering took 18hrs : )

I have seen you mention architect a few times now. Is this a stand alone app? I have looked around a bit not to much though. All I come up with is it with sonic foundry. As I said I didnt really look to much for it. If you know a link to some info on it I would love to check it out and see what they say about it. I love to try most anything that sounds intresting.

To run it through Architect and then DVD2one means a 2 fold quality hit. I suspect you would have been better off running it through Architect at a variable bitrate that meant the output was 4.37GB.

That or demuxing the mpeg into it's compenent parts and then running them through IFOedit (or any other authoring program) to give you a new set of VOBs that won't have been rerendered, which you could then run through DVD2one if you wanted

Just a thought.
