problems wtih hardware installation on Sony DRU-810A

alright, basically when i reboot my pc and it says new hardware found, then another bubble comes up saying that there was a problem installing the hardware and the hardware may not work properly. i got one and took it back and got a new one and it still wont work, so i dunno whats going on. imr eally new to all this stuff so help me please.

maybe... basically my comp is an hp complete setup. it had a cd burner with it and dvd reader. i wanted to burn dvd's so i took the cd burner out and replaced it with the sony one. so i assume the other thing is installed already or something.

one thing which kinda confused me though, is it told me int he instructions that it needed a 3rd cable, besides the power and the ribbon one plugged into it, but i didnt have any other free cables in my computer and dont know what im looking for.

Hmmm i dont see why you need a 3rd cord...i only use 2 cords in mine..make sure you have it in the master mode/slot also.

what does that mean exactly, all i know is i need the ribbon hooked up and the power hooked up, whats the master mode slot?

im really considering taking it back and getting a different brand or something.

lol, alright, i figured it out, and i feel like i made a comlete ass of myself. oh well, ill explain waht happened.

i figured that all i had to do was hook up the two cables and away we go, well i couldnt figure out why it wasnt working, and then i started hearing a bunch of stuff about master a slave and stuff like that, probly a big rooky mistake jsut ignoring it eh. oh well so after a bit more reading i decided to looka t my old drive and see what its jumper was set at. so i looked and it wa on the cable select. the new one i had was set as a master. so i changed the new one to cable select like the old one was and plugged it back in and i got an alert saying "your hardware is installed and ready for use" !!!!! great news, i was about to call er quits. anyways, if anyone else has problems like this, dont ingore your jumper. no i jsut gotta figure out waht software to get to allow me to copy movies.

Software:

Free:
Dvd shrink- Rips and compresses
Dvd decrypter- Rips-and burns
Nero6 or higher-If you have an oem disc,it will suffice.

Free trial-and $40 to purchase and it is a great program.
Anydvd: Because DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter are no longer updated to handle the newer encryptions.The dvd shrink/nero/and AnyDVD will handle just about all those newer releases. It runs in the background,so no extra step is involved.Updated very regularly.

You can set Nero to do the autoburning for DVD Shrink.You don't even notice it's doing the burning-you'd swear that DVD Shrink does the actual burning.


Other free programs-which you may have to use if you don't have anydvd:

Dvdfab decrypter
Vobblanker
Imgburn
