Speed and Voltage

ATA100 runs at 100Mbps
ATA133 runs at 133Mbps
SATA runs at 150MBps (serial ata)
SATA2 runs at 300MBps

The Sata interfaecs also require less power to run. The cables are also alot smaller than IDE's resulting in better airflow and case cooling efficiency.

You can also get a adapter to plug into the ide port to convert the ide into a sata interface. Im using the same one on a amd 800 slot a cause I had was a sata drive laying round. Works good...>!
Ebay is the place or Newegg for them!

If you are trying to run the SATA interface, then I'd go with the PCI version, not the IDE to SATA. It will just ruin the point of using SATA.
