Okay, so I was burning some DVD's yesterday - So i know my dvd burner works.
Today, I opened my new 25-pack of Mitsubishi HIGH QUALITY blank dvd-r's and they dont work - i want to know why and how to make them work.

to make life easier - i took pictures of the dvds and the errors im getting.
im trying to burn an ISO image file to disc - i tried it in alcohol 120% and nero - they both dont work. in alcohol, it gives me three speeds which i can burn it in - 1x, 2x, 4x (i tried all three but the same error comes up) - which is weird because normally it shows me 4x, 6x and 8x.

dvds:

http://img47.imageshack.us/img47/4220/dvd26jh.jpg
http://img47.imageshack.us/img47/7900/dvd38kt.jpg

errors:
http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/5680/nerofail1ph.gif

I press the 'burn' button then 1 second later the error comes.
Ive tried it with 2 different iso image files.
Ive tried it at 1x 2x and 4x speeds (havn't tried at 'maximum')
Ive already burnt it on another dvd-r (TDK) and it works.
Why dont my new mitsubishi dvd-r's work?

here is a part of the alcohol error log:

I think its a media problem I would suggest trying some good discs like Maxell(RitekG05)or fuji or verbs.

thread teleported to the Nero forum. it can't be those nice discs, i'll wager it's a system setting :)

if it's Nero 6, let's have LAST section of your Nero log which lives in c:\program files\ahead\nero\nerohistory.log but DO NOT post your serial number which usually begins with '1A21' or similar.

if it's Nero 7, let's have LAST section of your Nero log which lives in C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\Core\NeroHistory but DO NOT post your serial number which usually begins with '5C80' or similar.

either way you can differentiate sections via this section divider "====== *** Nero-Burning Rom, History File *** ======"

i've not dissected Alcohol 120% logs before but we should be able to get you sorted from the Nero log..

i've had to amend the pics to links to pics, instead of (very nice) pics onscreen as they're too big and are throwing the page margins out..no biggie as we can still see the pics from the links

you're missing a section of log from the preceding "====== *** Nero-Burning Rom, History File *** ======", however for now i see one important problem here -

Basically Nero's 6.6.1.4 update is crap and buggy, the latest proven update is the previous update, 6.6.0.18, get it from here - http://httpdl2.usw.nero.com/Nero-6.6.0.18.exe

Run REGEDIT. Go to the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96A-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

It has subkeys like 0000, 0001, 0002, etc. Normally 0001 is the primary IDE channel, 0002 the secondary, but other numbers can occur under certain circumstances. You have to go through these subkeys and check the DriverDesc value until you find the proper IDE channel.

Delete MasterIdDataChecksum or SlaveIdDataChecksum, depending on whether the device in question is attached as master or slave, but it can't actually hurt to delete both. Reboot. The drive DMA capabilities will be redetected.

2006-01-19 ? Horst Schülke wrote that it is sufficient to empty the content of these values. But you can also delete the values entirely. Windows will automatically recreate them anyway, with new content.

Open Device Manager again and check whether the device is now actually using DMA mode. If so, congratulations, you've made it (at least until the next time Windows disables DMA).

Im confused with the regedit - cuz i found two proper primary channels.
im thinkin one is the primary dvd-drive and the other is the primary hard drive.

ive burnt about 150-200 IMATION's and a few TDK's. can i also ask, why u say 'dont let them near you burner'?

also, with this DMA/regedit thing, i want to know how to do this - i dont wannah do anythin wrong in regedit and also, it might be the cause of another problem i have in this thread, so please help:

try this method for sorting the DMA then, it's by Alkohol here - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/295738

as to the regedit method, i don't usually recommend that in case it makes things worse. there are various ways to fix DMA, but they're all the same difference really...

i've subscribed to your hard drive thread but i'm at work so can't really sit and work it out just now :)

as to your dvd scanning thread here - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/329770 you need to get DMA sorted before worrying too much about scans....

hang on, i just said via PM that your hard drives were SATA drives. scratch that , re-reading this thread it looks like i'd confused your log with someone else's :)

anyway.....
Quote:
DiskPeripheral : ST380817AS atapi Port 2 ID 1 DMA: Off
- DMA needs setting on this particular hard drive, i can't remember what "Port 2" equates to, so let's follow the regedit stuff as follows -
Quote:
Run REGEDIT. Go to the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96A-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

- looks like you need to delete MasterIdDataChecksum and/or SlaveIdDataChecksum from '0002, 0003 & 0005' (going from your pics).

Then as it says, Reboot. The drive DMA capabilities will be redetected.

My 2 seagate hard drives (ST380817AS) are both SATA.
there is a IDE to SATA cable - and my WD is an IDE hard drive so i used the IDE to SATA cable for that.

can u be more specific? which of those from regedit do i delete? all 3 of them?

i knew i'd seen SATA somewhere after all!. anyway, yes, blow 'em away, it's not as scary as it sounds, windows will happily redetect them upon reboot.
