Okay I have nero 7 and everytime i try to burn a dvd it fails and it says "failed to open the file %s." I downloaded and installed ANYDVD but it doesnt seem to help
Here are the steps I use...
1. Open up nero recode
2. Select "recode and entire dvd to dvd"
3. Click "Import DVD"
4. Then I open up the "video ts" folder of the dvd
(the total size of the dvd is 4,459 mb and im using a 4.7gb dvd"
5. I click next and select the destination to the dvd-r drive and set my temporary folder
6. Select burn at once.(ive tried all 3 options and still no success by the way)
7. Click burn

Can somebody tell me if im doing something wrong? By the way, the dvd im trying to copy is Saw 2...ive tried flightplan and it wont work either. I know its not the burner cause i have no trouble burning some dvds for my mom which i used dvd decryptor since its much smaller. Any help appreciated

 That 4.7GB DVD may say 4.7GB on it, but it is only 4.38GB and you really shouldn't put any more than 4.35GB (I stop at 4.321GB) on it ...
Let's get technical ...
 Manufacturers quote the capacity of a writable DVD disc in decimal (base 10) rather than binary (base 2) notation so a 4.7 GB disc stores 4.7 billion bytes [4:700,000,000 bytes ÷ 1000 = 4,700,000 KB ÷ 1000 = 4,700 MB ÷ 1000 = 4.7 GB] . Expressed in binary notation (as is typical with CD-R, CD-RW and most operating systems) the same disc has a capacity of roughly 4.38 GB [4:700,000,000 bytes ÷ 1024 = 4,589,844 KB ÷ 1024 = 4,482.27 MB ÷ 1024 = 4.38 GB] .

Those movies should be no problem with the current version of AnyDVD (5.9.5.6), if you've got an older version upgrade here;

http://www.slysoft.com/en/download.html

Just to be clear, is the problem occuring during the rip process using Nero recode or the actual burning to disk process?

As I stated, the current version of AnyDVD should have no problem with the copy protection on those movies, I was able to do both using DVD Decrypter to rip, processed thru vobblanker, used shrink to transcode and create an ISO image, then used DVD Decrypter to burn the image to disk.

You should be able to use the current version of AnyDVD along with Nero recode to produce a backup, if having problems, you could try and use the ripper that is now included with AnyDVD. You can access the ripper by right clicking on the fox in your task bar and use it to rip the video files to a location on your HDD, once done, you can use Nero recode to import the files and burn to disk at 4x speed.

or

Try this:
Make sure your using the current version of anydvd(5.9.5.6), use DVD Decrypter in file mode with AnyDVD running to rip the DVD files to your HDD. Run Nero recode 2 and import the files in the VIDEO_TS folder, reauthor the movie files to backup just the main movie and 5.1 AC3 english audio channel and burn to disk at 4x speed.

Choose "Recode Main Movie to DVD", here you'll be allowed to reauthor the DVD, just choose one audio channel (5.1 AC3 eng) and uncheck all subtitle choices.

NO.
In the burn settings choose:
----------------------------
1)Select writing speed..choose 4x
2)Number of copies...keep it at 1 unless you want more
3)Burn ot once...leave unchecked
4)Advanced Analysis...put a check in the box
5)High Quality Mode...put a check in the box
6)Press burn button and cross your fingers

This example is for the FOG, but you get the idea.

You state above you're using nero 7, make sure you're running the current version 7.0.8.2.

You can get it here;
http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/nero7-up.php#opt2

Before you install the current version, uninstall the old using the nero cleantool found here;
http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/General_CleanTool.html

Also as stated above, for problem DVDs you could try and use the ripper that is now included with AnyDVD. You can access the ripper by right clicking on the fox in your task bar and use it to rip the video files to a location on your HDD, once done, you can use Nero recode to import the files and burn to disk at 4x speed. You can also try and open the files with DVDshrink.
