While I'm not sure what part of getting up was actually above the level of masochism; I will say that I have a very open mind. I have four sets of DK bongos, frequently use my DS, played DDR religiously for over a year, swear by Jet Set Radio, and have donated hundreds of hours to worms(Mostly the older titles, they were much better than the 3d ones).
So; I do have a pretty open mind, in addition to loving the UT and Quake series.
Guild Wars is a free MMO that is pretty decent. But find yourself some friends or a clan as QUICKLY as you can. Otherwise you will be so incredibly bored. But if you do have good people to play with; I've heard it can be one of the most entertaining games online. I need to restart and give it another shot myself...
Battlefield Anything is a great title, all the time, every time. lol.
Unreal Tournament 2004
Tribes Vengeance
Quake 3 or 4. Yes, Quake 3 is dated; but it never gets old.
Oblivion(Depending on how your system handles it. Mine basically won't.)
Black and White 2 is very enjoyable. I love evil man eating cows.
City of Heroes isn't free; but it is one of the best MMO's for newbies. I was hooked for nine months.
Half Life 2 (Plus, of course, Counter Strike Source)
Doom 3 comes highly reccomended.
F.E.A.R. is amazing.
Condemned is excellent.
Need for Speed Most Wanted is a great title, despite the fact that I really wanted to hate it, I just couldn't. lol.

Guild Wars should be more entertaining now that Factions is out and the fact it's still free is great imo :)

Get a halflife pack for 20$ at a local computer store, register it with steam, and play all the games it come with, Day of Defeat is my crack.

As good as Half-Life is; it's hardly ground breaking; I am under the impression that he's looking for something a little more recent than 1998 for his gaming fix. Although Half-Life 2 with the CS Source (as mentioned earlier) is wonderful. And if you get the collector's edition (I had to, it was too good) it comes with access to the older Half-Life software, HL Source, TFC, CS, all of them. It's a steal, and it's probably one of the best gaming fixes in history. The collector's edition costs a bit more; but you are getting literally about ten times the gaming. That's not even an exagguration, the big mods for Half-Life one and two aren't little tweaks. They are entire revamps, changing the basic way the game is played. They set entirely new maps, textures, weapons, goals, and gameplay types. They are literally their own, seperate titles. And they are all great fun.

Star Wars: Empire of War is pretty fun. Imagine Warcraft mixed with Risk mixed with, well, Star Wars. Very solid game
As for TES: Oblivion, I wouldn't recommend it if you have loved ones. They may never see you again.

BTW; if you have already played Diablo I and II; there are a lot of clones available for them. One title that I've found to be particularly satisfying was Dungeon Siege (Both one and two). Excellent play style, gorgeous graphics, variety of character development, spells, items, abilities. Very fun, and just like the Diablo series, full online and offline support. An excellent title; number two can be found for $20 or less, I picked up the first one with the "Legends of Aranna" expansion for $15 about a year ago; very good stuff. Great for that dungeon slashing urge.
@thekingo7
Thanks, I take pride in that. lol. I'm loving this site; while wondering just how long it will be before I pass 'newbie' status.

I guess it all depends on what u like.. Role playn, first shooter, strategy, etc.. Im more strategy so I would recommend Sim City 4 Rush Hour expansion.. AWESOME GAME!! Age of Mythology ( with the titan expansion ) , Rise of Nations, Stronghold 1 & 2.. 2 is better tho.. Command and Conquer Generals (zero hour) and i totally back up the previous recommendations of Black and White 2, Age of Empires, Warcraft III and Star Wars Empire at war, Fun, Fun, Fun..

Fahrenhiet(legendary game) AKA indigo theory or something
WoW is the best and most played game ever so thats a good bet...
Counter-strike 1.6 or source...best fps EVER!
Star Wars: Jedi knight outcast/academy
Star Wars: Knights of the old republic (star wars rocks :P)
FEAR is alright but starts to drag at the end...
TES games are ok but i dont like them tbh, to slow gameplay for me
Unreal Tournament/04 Great frag fest game on...i find it gets boring quickly though...becuase its so easy for me :P
Prince of Persia series is quite good but they last to long and play better on console..
Max Payne1/2 both brillant games:the invention of bullet time :)
StarCraft/brood wars: best RTS game EVER!
C&C generals/zero hour: great RTS so is the rest the of the series accutally..
Monkey island series is old but just great fun
Halo: everyone seems to love this game but i dont think its that great?
CoD1/2: played though them both but i really dont see the attraction to it...
Americas Army: fairly good FREE fps game but full of American patriotism rubbish
take your pick :P
:O
